Gorloks Improve to 7-4 on the Year

DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Webster University baseball team continued their spring break trip this afternoon in Davenport, Florida, with a nonconference matchup against Mitchell (Conn.) College. The Gorloks defeated the Mariners by a final score of 10-6 to improve to 7-4 on the season. With the loss, Mitchell drops to 5-3 on the year.

After allowing two runs in the top of the first, Webster bounced back in the bottom half of the inning and scored two runs to tie the score at two. The Mariners would retake the lead in the top of the third, but two runs from the Gorloks in the bottom of the third gave Webster their first lead of the game. The Gorloks and Mariners would exchange three run innings in the fifth and sixth, and then a three-run rally from the Gorloks in the bottom of the eighth solidified the win for Webster.

The Gorloks threw six pitchers in this one. Wes Cunningham and Scott Detweiler recorded the first three outs for Webster as they combined to allow three hits and one earned run while striking out one. Wes Carter and Sebastian Berrera pitched the next 4.2 innings for the Gorloks as the two combined to allow seven hits and four earned runs while striking out two. Elijah Rompala-Matthews (2-0) recorded the win for Webster after picking up an out and then Joel Arsenault recorded the save after allowing just one hit and striking out five in 3.0 scoreless innings.

The Gorloks put together 14 hits in the win. Four Gorloks recorded multi-hit games as Karl Peters went 2-for-4 with an RBI, James Theodore went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, Nick Schumacher went 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Parker Murrow went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Evan Evola and Nathaniel Martinez also played well as each recorded two RBI. In addition, R.J. LaRocco recorded three runs scored while Zach Goodman had an RBI.

The Gorloks will return to the diamond on Thursday, March 14th when they take on Wheaton (Mass.) College for a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 11 a.m. EST in Saint Leo, Florida.
