ST. LEO, Fla. – The Webster University baseball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to St. Leo, Florida, to take on the Wheaton (Mass.) College Lyons for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Lyons by a final score of 13-6 to drop to 7-5 on the season. With the win, Wheaton improves to 2-3 on the year.
After two scoreless innings, the Gorloks got on the board first in the bottom of the third as they rallied for three runs, including a two-run homerun from
Nathaniel Martinez (2), to jump out to an early lead. The Lyons would settle in as the game progressed and scored seven runs over the next two innings to take a 7-3 lead in the game. Webster would answer with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 7-6, but two runs in the top of the seventh would give Wheaton a 9-6 advantage late in the game. The Lyons would add four runs in the final two innings and held the Gorloks off the board to solidify the win.
Kevin Corcoran got the start in this one as he allowed three hits and three earned runs while striking out four in 4.0 innings.

Sebastian Barrera, and
Elijah Rompala-Matthews pitched the final six innings for Webster as they combined to allow 10 hits and six earned runs while striking out two.
Webster put together 12 hits in the contest.
Nathaniel Martinez led the way for the Gorloks as he went 3-for-5 with a two-run homerun.
James Theodore and
Parker Murrow also recorded multi-hit games as Theodore went 3-for-4 with a run scored while Murrow went 2-for-4 with an RBI. In addition,
Zach Goodman and
Andrew Fazio each recorded an RBI.
The Gorloks will return to the diamond tomorrow, March 15
th when they take on Johns Hopkins (Md.) University in Auburndale, Florida. The game is set to start at 3 p.m. EST.
