Gorloks Fall to #9 Johns Hopkins

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Webster University baseball team continued their spring break trip this afternoon when they took on the ninth ranked Johns Hopkins (Md.) University Blue Jays. The Gorloks fell to the Blue Jays by a final score of 7-5 to drop to 7-6 on the season. With the win, Johns Hopkins improves to 7-3 on the year.

The Gorloks got off to a great start in the game as R.J. LaRocco hit an RBI single in the top of the first to give Webster a 1-0 lead. Andrew Fazio would add to the Gorloks lead in the top of the fifth as he hit a sacrifice fly to score Parker Murrow and give Webster a 2-0 advantage. The Gorloks would go on to add two runs in the top of the sixth to push their lead to 4-0, but the Blue Jays would score three runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 4-3. Johns Hopkins would add two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to take their first lead of the game, but a run from Webster in the top of the ninth would tie the score at five. The Blue Jays would hit a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the ninth and solidify the 7-5 win.

Ryan Greifelt got the start in this one as he allowed just five hits and three earned runs while striking out two in 6.2 innings. Caleb Zbrozek (1-1) pitched the final 1.2  innings as he allowed four hits and two earned runs.

Webster put together eight hits in the contest. Karl Peters and Parker Murrow both recorded multi-hit games as Peters went 2-for-5 with an RBI while Murrow went 2-for-3 with a run scored. In addition, R.J. LaRocco went 1-for-4 with an RBI, Nick Schumacher went 1-for-4 with an RBI, and Evan Evola went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The Gorloks will wrap up their spring break trip tomorrow, March 16th when they take on #2 Endicott (Mass.) College. The game is set to start at 10 a.m. in Auburndale, Florida.
