AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Webster University baseball team was back in action this morning when they took on #2 Endicott (Mass.) College for their final game of their spring break trip. The Gorloks were defeated by the Gulls by a final score of 12-2 (7 inn.) to drop to 7-7 on the season. With the win, Endicott improves to 8-0 on the year.
After a scoreless first inning, Endicott got on the board in the bottom of the first as they rallied for nine runs to take an early lead. They would add a run in the bottom of the third and kept the Gorloks off the board for the first five innings. Webster was able to cut the lead to 10-2 in the top of the sixth, but two runs over the next two innings would solidify the win for Endicott.
The Gorloks threw six pitchers in this one after
Jordan Smevoll was scratched before the start of the game.
Wes Carter (0-1) was the first pitcher on the mound for Webster as he allowed three hits and four earned runs in 1.1 innings.
Carter Hunt,
Joel Arsenault,
Cade Gebhard,
Tate Aurich, and
Scott Detweiler pitched the final 4.2 innings for Webster as they combined to allow eight hits and six earned runs while striking out three.
The Gorloks were held to just three hits in the game.
Karl Peters,
Nick Schumacher, and
Andrew Fazio recorded the hits for the Gorloks. In addition,
James Theodore and
R.J. LaRocco each recorded an RBI.
The Gorloks return to the diamond on Wednesday, March 20
th when they host Washington (Mo.) University for a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 3 p.m. at Grizzlies Ballpark in Sauget, Illinois.
