Gorloks Drop Spring Break Doubleheader

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Webster University softball team was back in action this morning when they continued their spring break trip in Tucson, Arizona. The Gorloks were swept in their doubleheader as they fell to Central (Iowa) College by a final score of 9-3 before falling to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse by a final score of 8-0. With the sweep, the Gorloks drop to 8-7-1 on the year.

In their first game against the Dutch, Webster got on the board first as Sidney Holtz hit an RBI double in the bottom of the second to jump out to a 1-0 lead. The Dutch would answer back with a run in each of the next two innings, but a two-run double from Lili Work in the bottom of the third gave Webster a 3-2 lead. The Dutch would score seven runs over the next three innings and held off the Gorloks down the stretch to solidify the win.

Reese Waggoner (1-3) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed 11 hits and eight earned runs while striking out four in 5.0 innings. Ainsley Hinz pitched the final two innings for the Gorloks as she did not allow a hit while striking out two.

Webster was held to just six hits in the contest. Lily Work and Sidney Holtz led the way for Webster as Work went 1-for-1 with two RBI while Holtz went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
In their second game of the day, Webster had a tough time getting anything going. La Crosse scored two runs in the first, one run in the second, one run in the third, and four runs in the fifth while keeping Webster off the board to solidify the win.
