TUCSON, Ariz. – The Webster University softball team wrapped up play in Tucson, Arizona , this morning when they took on Franklin and Marshall (Pa.) College for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Diplomats by a final score of 4-0 to improve to 9-7-1 on the season. With the loss, Franklin and Marshall drops to 2-3 on the year.
Webster got off to a great start in this one as they rallied for three runs in the top of the first to jump out to an early lead. They would add one more run in the top of the fifth and held the Diplomats off the scoreboard throughout the game to solidify the win.
Madi Stichling (1-0) was the starting pitcher for Webster as she allowed just four hits while striking out one in her first complete game shutout of the season.
Webster recorded nine hits in the game.
Paige Thomas led the way as she went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Katie Croxall also recorded a multi-hit game as she went 2-for-5 with a run scored. Lastly,
Sidney Holtz recorded an RBI for Webster.
The Gorloks will return home on Saturday, March 16
th when they host the University of Dubuque (Iowa) for a nonconference doubleheader. The first game is set to start at 2 p.m. with the second to follow at St. Joseph's Academy.
