HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Webster University women's tennis team kicked off their spring break trip today when they traveled to Hilton Head, South Carolina, to take on Maryville (Tenn.) College and Dickinson (Pa.) College. The Gorloks dropped both matches of their doubleheader as they lost their first match against Maryville by a final score of 7-2 before falling to Dickinson by a final score of 7-2. The sweep drops the Gorloks to 6-4 on the year.
In their first match against Maryville, the Gorloks had a tough time getting anything going in doubles as they dropped all three matches.
Bailey Higgins and
Maddie Mena fell in #1 doubles to Elizabeth Shwaiko and Katelyn Cook by a final score of 8-3.
Navone Armstrong and
Kylie Chitwood fell in #2 doubles to Abby Diggs and Alyssa Smith by a final score of 8-3. Lastly,
Bailee Pineda and
Evie Schuetz fell in #3 doubles to
Bailee Pineda and
Evie Schuetz by a final score of 8-7 (5).
After dropping #1 and #2 doubles, Webster was able to get on the board in #3 doubles as
Maddie Mena defeated Abby Diggs by final scores of 6-3, 3-6, and 10-1.
Chloe Daughtry picked up the other point for Webster as she defeated Mandy Webb in #6 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
In their second match of the day, Webster was able to pick up one point in the doubles portion of the match.
Kylie Chitwood and
Navone Armstrong picked up the lone win for Webster as they defeated Dana Kleinman and Sara Jaklitsch in #2 doubles by a final score of 8-2.
In singles,
Kylie Chitwood picked up the lone win for the Gorloks as she won a tightly contested #2 singles match. She defeated Bonnie Thomas by final scores of 4-6, 6-4, and 10-5.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Thursday, March 14
th when they take on Agnes Scott (Ga.) College. The match is set to start at 3 p.m. in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
