HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back in action this morning when they took on Shepard (W.V.) University for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Rams by a final score of 6-1 drop to 6-5 on the year.
The Gorloks and Rams played NCAA Division II tennis rules with doubles counting as one point.
Bailey Higgins and
Maddie Mena were able to win #1 doubles over Marketa Beladova and Ximena Bolanos by a final score of 7-5. However, Webster was unable to win #2 or #3 doubles and the Rams captured the lone point in doubles.
The Gorloks also had a tough time getting anything going in the singles portion of the match but were able to pick up a point in #6 singles.
Carlie Barban scored the point for Webster as she defeated Brianna Caceda in #6 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-3.
The Gorloks will return to the courts on Thursday, March 14
th when they take on Agnes Scott (Ga.) College in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The match is set to take place at 3 p.m. EST.
