HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back in action this afternoon when they took on Agnes Scott (Ga.) College for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Scotties by a final score of 8-1 to improve to 7-5 on the season. With the loss, Agnes Scott drops to 0-8 on the year.
Webster got off to a great start in doubles as they swept all three matches.
Bailey Higgins and
Kylie Chitwood won #1 doubles as they defeated Leilah Lewinson and Allyson Gibbs by a final score of 8-1.
Navone Armstrong and
Maddie Mena won #2 singles over Iris Ray and Katiuska Castillo by a final score of 8-4.
Evie Schuetz and
Riham Benjelloun completed the doubles sweep as they defeated Rosie Hagel and Fabiola Garcia by a final score of 8-1.
The Gorloks carried their momentum over into singles and were able to capture five out of six points.
Kylie Chitwood won #1 singles over Leilah Lewinson by final scores of 6-3 and 6-2.
Maddie Mena won #2 singles over Katiuska Castillo by final scores of 6-2 and 6-2.
Bailee Pineda won #3 singles over Allyson Gibbs by final scores of 6-1 and 6-3.
Chloe Daughtry took #5 singles over Fabiola Garcia by final scores of 6-0 and 6-0. Lastly,
Carlie Barban won #6 singles over Rosie Hagel by final scores of 7-5, 3-6, and 10-6.
The Gorloks will return to the courts tomorrow, March 15
th when they take on Catholic University of America (DC) for their final match of their spring break trip. The match is set to start at 1:30 p.m. EST in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
