ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Last night the Webster University women's tennis team was back in action when they played host to the Baker (Kan.) University Wildcats for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Wildcats by a final score of 5-4 to improve to 10-5 on the season. With the loss, Baker drops to 0-15 on the year.
The Gorloks got off to a slow start in doubles as they dropped two out of three matches.
Bailey Higgins and
Kylie Chitwood fell in #1 doubles to Dayna Steadman and Cambrie Frame by a final score of 8-4.
Bailee Pineda and
Maddie Mena dropped #2 doubles to Ciarra McWilliams and Clare Longfoss by a final score of 8-7 (4).
Evie Schuetz and
Chloe Daughtry were able to score a point in #3 doubles as they won by forfeit.
The Gorloks picked it up in singles as they scored four out six points.
Kylie Chitwood won #2 singles over Cambrie Frame by final scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
Bailee Pineda took #4 singles over Clare Longfoss by final scores of 6-0 and 6-2.
Evie Schuetz won #5 singles over Jordan Grabast by final scores of 6-1 and 6-1. Lastly,
Chloe Daughtry won #6 singles by forfeit.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Thursday, April 4
th when they take on the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for their first UMAC match of the season. The match will start at 5:15 p.m. in Elsah, Illinois.
