Gorloks Score 17 at Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Webster University baseball team was back in action yesterday when they traveled to Terre Haute, Indiana, to take on Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.) for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Fighting Engineers by a final score of 17-7 to improve to 15-13 on the season. With the loss, Rose-Hulman drops to 17-11 on the year.

The Gorloks got on the board first in this one as they scored two runs in the top of the second to take a 2-0 lead. Rose-Hulman answered with two runs in the bottom of the second, but three runs from Webster in the top of the third put the Gorloks up 5-2 in the game. The Fighting Engineers would cut the lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the third, but 11 runs over the next four innings put Webster up 16-3 late in the contest. Rose-Hulman would cut the lead to 16-7 in the bottom of the eighth, but another run from the Gorloks in the top of the ninth solidified the win.

Carter Hunt got the start in this one as he allowed three hits and three earned runs while striking out three in 2.1 innings. Cade Gebhard, Adam Hill (1-0), Cullen McBride, Tate Aurich, and Elijah Rompala-Matthews pitched in relief as the five combined to allow seven hits and three earned runs while striking out 10 in the final seven innings of the game.

Webster tallied 18 hits in the contest. Parker Murrow led the way as he went 4-for-6 with a solo homerun (4) and five RBI. Nathaniel Martinez, R.J. LaRocco, and Andrew Fazio also recorded multi-hit games as Martinez went 3-for-3 with a three-run homerun (8) and four RBI, R.J. LaRocco went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Fazio went 3-for-5 with a solo homerun (3) and two RBI. In addition, Paul Rice went 1-for-1 with a solo homerun (1) while Evan Evola and Zach Goodman each recorded an RBI.

The Gorloks will be back in action on Saturday, April 20th when they host the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for a SLIAC doubleheader. The first game is set to start at 1 p.m. with the second to follow.
