SAUGET, Ill. – The Webster University baseball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Transylvania (Ky.) University Pioneers for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks fell to the Pioneers by a final score of 12-3 to fall to 18-17 on the season. With the win, Transylvania improves to 30-6 on the year.
After three scoreless innings to start, Webster got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth as
R.J. LaRocco hit an RBI double to put the Gorloks up 1-0 in the game. The Pioneers would answer with three runs over the next two innings to take a 3-1 lead, but a solo homerun (14) from
Nathaniel Martinez in the bottom of the sixth cut the lead to 3-2 late in the game. Transylvania would go on to outscore Webster 9-1 in the final three innings to solidify the win.
Jordan Smevoll (3-3) was the starting pitcher in this one as he allowed four hits and three earned runs while striking out nine in 6.0 innings.

Joel Arsenault,
Jeremy Yanow,
Ethan Luzum, and
Logan Birch all pitched in relief as the five combined to allow seven hits and nine earned runs while striking out four in 3.0 innings.
Webster was held to just six hits in the game.
Nathaniel Martinez and
Ben Stedman were responsible for four of the teams hits as Martinez went 2-for-5 with a solo homerun (14) and Stedman went 2-for-4 with an RBI. In addition,
R.J. LaRocco went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Gorloks will return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 30
th when they travel to Franklin, Indiana, to take on the Franklin (Ind.) College Grizzlies for a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 4 p.m. EST.
