FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Webster University baseball team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Franklin, Indiana, to take on the Franklin (Ind.) College Grizzlies for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Grizzlies by a final score of 13-4 to improve to 18-17 on the season. With the loss, Franklin drops to 18-18 on the year.
The Gorloks got on the board first in this one as they scored four runs in the top of the third to take a 4-0 lead. Webster and Franklin would trade runs over the next four innings and the Gorloks would hold an 8-4 lead late in the game. They would go on to score five runs in the top of the ninth and held off the Grizzlies in the bottom half of the inning to solidify the win.
Carter Hunt got the start in this one as he allowed one hit while striking out one in 3.0 scoreless innings.
J.T. Miller,
Cade Gebhard (1-0), and
Cullen McBride pitched the next three innings as they combined to allow four hits and three earned runs while striking out two.
Tate Aurich,
Joel Arsenault, Eli Rompala-Matthews, and
Jeremy Yanow pitched the final three innings as they allowed just one hit and one earned run while striking out two.
Webster tallied 14 hits in the game.
Karl Peters led the way as he went 2-for-6 with a three-run homerun (10), five RBI, and three runs scored.
Zach Goodman and
Andrew Fazio also recorded multi-hit games as Goodman went 4-for-4 with three runs scored while Fazio went 2-for-5 with an RBI. In addition,
Parker Murrow went 1-for-3 with two RBI,
Michael Ellis went 1-for-1 with an RBI,
Ben Stedman went 1-for-1 with an RBI, and
Nick Schumacher added an RBI to round out the top performers for the Gorloks.
The Gorloks return to the diamond on Thursday, May 2
nd when they travel to Decatur, Illinois, to take on the Millikin (Ill.) University Big Blue for a nonconference matchup. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
