DECATUR, Ill. – The Webster University baseball team was back in action on Thursday when they traveled to Decatur, Illinois, to take on the Millikin (Ill.) University Big Blue for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Big Blue by a final score of 11-7 to improve to 20-17 on the season. With the loss, Millikin drops to 25-13 on the season.
The Gorloks got on the board first in this one as they scored a run in the top of the second to take an early lead. The Big Blue would tie the score in the bottom of the second, but seven runs from Webster in the top of the third gave the Gorloks an 8-1 advantage. Millikin would go on to score six unanswered runs over the next five innings to cut the lead to one, but three runs from Webster in the final two innings solidified the win for the Gorloks.
Wes Cunningham (1-2) was the starting pitcher in this one as he allowed five hits and three earned runs while striking out two in 5.0 innings.
Cade Gebhard and
Jeremy Yanow pitched in relief as the two combined to allow five hits and one earned run while striking out four in the final four innings of the game.
Webster recorded 12 hits in the game.
James Theodore and
Evan Evola led the way for Webster as Theodore went 3-for-5 with three RBI while Evola went 2-for-4 with a solo homerun and three RBI. In addition,
Parker Murrow went 2-for-4 with an RBI,
Nathaniel Martinez went 1-for-5 with an RBI,
Zach Goodman went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and
Ben Stedman recorded an RBI.
The Gorloks are back in action on Saturday, May 4
th when they host the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils for their final doubleheader of the regular season. The first game is set to start at 11:30 a.m. with the second game to follow.
