ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University softball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots for a SLIAC doubleheader. The Gorloks were able to win the first game of the doubleheader by a final score of 3-0 before the second game was canceled due to weather. The win moves Webster to 16-7-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.
The Gorloks got off to a great start in this one as
Kaelyn Kearney hit an RBI single in the top of the first to give Webster a 1-0 lead. The Gorloks would go on to add a run in the top of the fourth and a run in the top of the fifth while holding the Scots off the board for the entirety of the game to solidify their eighth straight win.
Reese Waggoner (3-3) was sensational in this one as she allowed just three hits while striking out three in her first complete game shutout of the season.
Webster rallied for 13 hits in the contest.
Katie Croxall,
Lucy St. John, and
Alyssa Lyell each recorded multi-hit games as Croxall went 2-for-4 with an RBI, St. John went 3-for-4 with a run scored, and Lyell went 2-for-3 with a run scored. In addition,
Kaelyn Kearney went 1-for-4 with an RBI while
Madi Stichling went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
The Gorloks will return to the diamond on Sunday, April 14
th when they host Spalding (Ky.) University for a SLIAC doubleheader. The first game is set to start at 12 p.m. with the second game to follow at St. Joseph's Academy.
