LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Webster University softball team was back in action yesterday when they traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers in the SLIAC Tournament Semifinals. The third seeded Gorloks fell to the Panthers by a final score of 4-3 to move into the consolation bracket of the SLIAC Tournament.
The Gorloks got off to a great start in this one as they scored a run in the top of the second to take an early lead. The Panthers would answer back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth and held a 4-1 advantage late the in the game. Webster would cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the sixth but the Panthers were able to record the final outs of the game to solidify the win.
Reese Waggoner (8-5) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed three hits and four earned runs while striking out six in 4.0 innings.
Ainsley Hinz and
Braidyn Burr pitched in relief as the two combined to allow just one hit while striking out one in the final 2.0 scoreless innings of the game.
Webster was held to just four hits in the game.
Kaelyn Kearney led the way as she went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. In addition,
Jaelin Holdaway went 1-for-3 with an RBI while
Paige Thomas and
Madi Stichling each added a hit.
The Gorloks will return to action this morning when they face the fourth seeded Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles in an elimination game. First pitch is set to start at 12 p.m. EST in Louisville, Kentucky.
