ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University softball team was back in action yesterday when they played host to the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for a SLIAC doubleheader. The Gorloks were swept in the doubleheader as they dropped the first game by a final sore of 1-0 and the second game by a final score of 5-1 to drop to 22-12-1 on the season and 9-5 in conference play. With the sweep, Greenville improves to 29-7 on the year and 10-4 in the SLIAC.
It was a pitchers dual in the first game of the day as neither team was able to get anything going offensively through the first four innings of the contest. The Panthers would get on the board in the top of the fifth and held Webster off the board to solidify the first game of the doubleheader.
Reese Waggoner (6-4) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed just six hits and one earned run while striking out seven in her sixth complete game of the year.
Webster was held to just six hits in the contest.

Jaelin Holdaway,
Emma Bovaconti,
Reese Waggoner, and
Aven Ragwar-Hayes each recorded a hit.
The second game started similar to the first as neither team was able to get on the board through the first couple of innings. The Panthers got on the board first in the top of the third, but an RBI single from
Jaelin Holdaway in the bottom half of the inning tied the score at one. Greenville would go on to score four runs in the top of the fifth and held the Gorloks off the board to solidify the win.
Braidyn Burr (5-3) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed nine hits and four earned runs while striking out three in her fifth complete game of the season.
Webster was held to just four hits in the game.
Jaelin Holdaway led the way as she went 1-for-3 with an RBI. In addition,
Reese Waggoner went 1-for-3 with a run scored while
Katie Croxall and
Kaelyn Kearney each went 1-for-3.
The Gorloks will return to the diamond on Sunday, May 5
th when they travel to Carlinville, Illinois, to take on the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers for their final doubleheader of the regular season. The first game is set to start at 2 p.m. with the second game to follow.
