Gorloks Extend Win Streak To Three With Shutout Victory over IC

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster men's soccer team continued non-conference play by hosting Illinois College Thursday night at WWT Soccer Park. The Gorloks earned their first shoutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over the Blueboys. With the victory, Webster extends their win streak to three games and move to 3-2 overall on the season.

In the opening minute of action, the Gorloks sent the ball in the attacking side to the foot of the SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week in Talha Dizdarevic as he put a shot on goal. However, the shot was saved by first-year goalkeeper Daniel Happach from IC.

For the next five minutes, Webster and IC battled in between the end lines and did not record a shot. However, the Blueboys blasted four shots toward the net over the span of five minutes as WU's goalkeeper in Luke Dillon recorded two saves.

Midway through the first half, the Gorloks had a great opportunity to crack the scoreless match when Dizdarevic collected the ball but the rocket of a shot hit off the top of the crossbar. Less than two minutes later, first-year Logan Hazel put a shot on goal but just missed wide left.

The back-and-forth battle continued as both teams each recorded a shot toward the net. The Blueboys scoring opportunity came off the foot from Tyler Schiltz while the Webster shot was by first-year international student from the country of  Wales in Scott Price

In the final minute of the first half, WU's Elmin Lemes put two shots toward the net but the match as his shots went wide that kept the match scoreless at the break,

The Gorloks came out in the second half with an aggressive tone and put four shots towards the net as IC's Happach added two saves. However, in the 78th minute, WU's Price cracked the Blueboys defense when he blasted a left footed strike just outside the box to the lower left post which went past the diving Blueboys goalkeeper for the 1-0 advantage.

Two minutes later, senior defender Noah Thomas collected the ball in the box and ripped a shot in the back of the net for his second career goal that gave Webster the 2-0 lead. For the final ten minutes of play, the Gorloks held a strong defensive stance that earned the victory.

For the match, the Gorloks outshot the Blueboys by the margin of 18-9 led by Price with five as Dizdarevic added four.  In net, Dillon recorded a total of four saves.
