Men’s Soccer Fall To WashU In Road Match

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University men's soccer traveled across to Washington University and dropped this non-conference match to the Bears by the final score of 2-7. 

In the early minutes of this contest, the Gorloks battled on the defensive side of the ball but the Bears struck first on the scoreboard with a goal by Zach Susee. In the seventh minute, WU's goalkeeper Luke Dillon eliminated a Bears scoring opportunity with an incredible diving save to the right post.  

In the 14th minute, the Gorloks countered with a strong offensive attack that resulted in a goal by Elmin Lemes that tied the match at one apiece. However, the Bears quickly answered with two goals by Susee and Colin Link that made the score 1-3. 

Webster and WashU battled between the end lines for the next 20 minutes with scoreless play. In the 40th minute, the Gorloks cut the deficit to one at 2-3 on a goal by Scott Price which was his third of the season which ties Talha Dizdarevic for a team-high on the season. That goal by Price would end up being the final goal of the match for the Gorloks as ghat score remained the same at the halftime break. WU's Dillon tallied four saves in net in the first 45 minutes of action.

The Gorloks came out in the second half with a burst of energy on the attacking side that resulted in three shots. In the 50th minute, Dizdarevic had two great opportunities to tie the match as his first shot went off the top crossbar as he put the second on goal but the Bears goalkeeper made a great save. 

However, WashU put the match away with four second half goals that resulted in the final score. 

For the match, Dizdarevic led the offensive unit with four shots as six other student-athletes recorded at least one shot. In net, Dillon recorded a game-high six saves 

The Gorloks will continue non-conference play hosting the Hornets of Harris-Stowe State University for Senior Night on Wednesday, September 18 at 6:00 PM in Fenton, Missouri.
