Dizdarevic Scores First Goal Of Season In Defeat To Maryville

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Gorloks men's soccer team continued their three-game homestand with the middle stanza decision against crosstown opponent Maryville University on Labor Day. The Gorloks netted their first goal of the season but dropped the match by the final score of 3-1.

In the early minutes of action, the Gorloks held a strong defensive stance and eliminated three corner kicks attempts by the Saints. Maryville's strong offensive attacks led to four shots on goal as Luke Dillon erased them all.

However, in the 19th minute, the Saints struck first on the scoreboard with a goal from Mason Crew that made the score 1-0.
Shortly later, in the 32nd minute, Maryville's Jimmy Doherty made the game 2-0 with a goal as the Saints took that lead into halftime.

Junior goalkeeper Ty Baudendistel made his season debut for the Gorloks and started the second half of this match. The Saints held that same offensive pressure and fired three shots near goal but all went wide.

The Gorloks kept battling the Saints and capitalized on a defensive miscue as Talha Dizdarevic collected the ball and juked out the Maryville goalkeeper for the easy tap in goal for his first and teams first goal of the season.

The Gorloks momentum came to a halt in the 76th minute when MU's Bryce Glisson netted a goal that made the score 3-1 which generated the final score.

For the match, the Gorloks were outmatched 27-5 in the shots department and 15-2 in corner kicks.

The Gorloks will close out this homestand on Saturday, September 7 hosting the Stars of Dominican University at 2:30PM at WorldWide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Missouri.
