Inouye’s Early Second Half Goal Leads To Victory Over Rose-Hulman In Home Opener

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University women's soccer team played in front of and rallied behind their crowd for the first time this season for a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Fightin' Engineers of Rose-Hulman Wednesday evening. With the victory, Webster moves to 2-0 overall on the season.

Webster and Rose-Hulman battled back-and-forth as neither team recorded a shot on goal which led to a scoreless halftime intermission.

Just 39 seconds into the second half, WU's Sienna Inouye blasted the first shot on goal for the Gorloks and found the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage that was assisted by Malaya Blakely

The reigning 2023 SLIAC All-Conference goalkeeper Courtney Haneline faced and eliminated six shots on goal by Rose-Hulman for the remainder of the half that led to the first shutout of the season.

For the match, six Webster student-athletes recorded at least one shot as Grace Rodgers led with two. Defensively, Haneline recorded six saves and eliminated five corner kick attempts.

The Gorloks will continue this three-game homestand with the middle stanza decision this Saturday September 7 hosting the Eagles of Benedictine University at noon in Fenton, Missouri.
