WU’s Price and Lemes Lead Gorloks In Huge Road Victory Over Hawks

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Webster University men's soccer team traveled west on Interstate 70 for a mid-week match against Division II opponent Rockhurst University at Bourke Field. The Gorloks earned a huge road victory over the Hawks by the final score of 2-1. With the victory, Webster moves to 2-2 overall on the season. 
 
In the first 10 minutes of action, the Gorloks challenged Hawks on the defensive side of the pitch as goalkeeper Luke Dillon collected a save. In the 17th minute, the SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week from last week in Talha Dizdarevic put a shot on goal as the Hawks goalkeeper made a fantastic save that kept the match scoreless. 

Both teams kept battling back-and-forth and as each team had an opportunity to score. In the final minute of the first half, the Gorloks put together an aggressive offensive drive that resulted in a goal from St. Louis native and first-year student-athlete in Elmin Lemes that gave Webster the 1-0 halftime advantage. That goal by Lemes was his first collegiate goal.

In the 53rd minute, first-year international student from the country of Wales (United Kingdom), Scott Price collected the ball from Dizdarevic and netted a his first collegiate goal that gave the Gorloks the 2-0 lead.

For the next 20 minutes of play, the Hawks turned up the offensive attack with 10 total shots as four shots were on goal as Dillon secured all attempts his way. Rockhurst cut the deficit to one at 2-1 in the 75th minute with a goal from Mitchell Farrar. The Gorloks held off the Hawks offensive attack for the remainder of the match to secure the victory. 

For the match, the offensive attack was led by Dizdarevic with three shots on goal with Price blasted two on net. Goalkeeper Dillon had a near double-digit save performance with nine saves. 

The Gorloks will have two days of practice before hosting the Blueboys of Illinois College on Thursday September 12 at 3:00 PM in Fenton, Missouri.
