Gorloks Drop Conference Match To Westminster

FULTON, Mo. - The Webster University continued conference play with a road match at Westminster College on Wednesday. The Gorloks fought hard but fell short by the final score of 0-3. With the defeat, Webster moves to 5-10 overall and 3-3 in conference play. 

Webster opened this match in an early 0-4 deficit but battled back and cut the deficit to one at 4-5 on a service ace by Maddie Bock. The set continued with back-and-forth play to the score of 7-8 that included kills by Tyler Ramstack and Lauren Brown. Moments later, the Blue Jays answered with a 7-2 run that pushed the deficit to 9-15. Webster and Westminster continued the opening set by trading points that pushed the set score to 13-19. 

Late in the set, the Bluejays constructed a 4-0 run that pushed the score to 13-23. The Gorloks followed up with three consecutive points that included a service ace by Eva Tarlos but Westminster took the set by the score of 16-25. 

The Bluejays opened the second set with the early 5-3 advantage that included a kill by Ramstack and Megan Zablonski while Zablonski and Grace White paired up for an assisted block. Moments later, Westminster constructed a 17-5 run that generated the 8-22 deficit that included kills by Lauren Harms and White. Late in the set, Webster added a 4-1 run that started on back-to-back kills by Ramstack. In addition to Ramstack, Zablonski added another kill while Tarlos and Zablonski connected on an assisted block. However, the Bluejays added the final two points of the set that won the set.

Webster opened the final set with the early 7-1 advantage that included four kills; two by White and one each from Harms and Ramstack. In addition, Harms added a service ace while Ramstack and White paired up for an assisted block. 

Moments later, the Blue Jays countered with an 8-2 run that tied the set at nine apiece. Immediately following the WC run, Webster regained the lead at 14-10 with a 5-1 run that started on an assisted block by Tarlos and Zablonski. Following that point, Tarlos hammered down as Lewis capped off the run with a service ace. 

The game of runs continued as Westminster responded with a 10-0 run that generated the 14-20 deficit. Following a kill by White and an attacking error WC, the Bluejays and Gorloks exchanged 3-0 runs to the score of 19-23. In the WU run, Brown and Zablonski added a kill each. Westminster closed out the match with consecutive points that generated the defeat.

For the match, Ramstack led the team with six kills as White added five while Brown contributed four. Setters Riley Watson and Brynn Peloquin combined for 16 assists led by Watson with 10. Defensively, Jaycee Lewis led with seven digs while Zablonski collected six. At the net, White recorded a team-high and season-high four assisted blocks while Zablonski recorded three assisted blocks. 

The Gorloks will revert back to non-conference play on Wednesday, October 8 hosting #10 Washington University of St. Louis at 7:00PM for the annual Dig Pink match in Grant Gym.
