Gorloks Volleyball Falls Short To #10 WashU; Raised Over $280 On Dig Pink Night

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University volleyball team hosted the 10th-ranked Washington University Bears for their annual Dig Pink Match in Grant Gym. The Gorloks battled the Bears but dropped the match by the score of 0-3. With the defeat, Webster moves to 5-11 overall.

For the entire month of October, the volleyball team has partnered with the Side-Out Foundation in efforts to raise money for research, treatments, and improve the overall lives of individuals with Breast Cancer. In their 15th annual Dig Pink Match, the WU program and their fans raised over $280 in 50-50 raffle ticket sales for the incredible organization.

Webster opened this non-conference match in a 2-7 deficit that included kills by Tyler Ramstack and Maddie Bock but the Gorloks chipped back and cut the deficit to 8-10 with a 6-3 run. In the run, Ramstack and Eva Tarlos added a kill each while Jaycee Lewis and Tarlos laid down a service ace each. Moments later, the Bears constructed a 6-2 run that pushed the score to 16-10 as Delaney Morio and Ramstack contributed a kill each. Following a kill by Grace White that made the score 11-16, WashU closed out the set with a 9-2 run. The two points by Webster came from an assisted block by Ramstack and White and a kill by Ramstack. 

Webster and WashU opened the second set with back-and-forth play as an assisted block by Lauren Harms and Tarlos made the one-point deficit at 3-4. Moments later, the Bears countered with an 11-3 run that pushed the score to 6-15. Immediately following the WashU run, the Gorloks added a 4-2 run that made the score 10-17 which included kills by White and Ramstack and two assisted blocks. Late in the set, WashU added a 5-1 run that pushed the score to 11-22. The Gorloks added their final points of the set on a service ace by Tarlos and a kill by Megan Zablonski but unfortunately dropped the set.
 
The Gorloks and Bears opened the third set with back-and-forth action as a kill by Harms tied the set at four apiece. Moments later, WashU added a 5-2 run which pushed the set to 6-9 that included a kill by Tarlos and a service ace by Lauren Peterson. Immediately following the Bears run, the Gorloks countered with a 5-1 run that started on a kill by Zablonski. Moments later, Leah McGrath and Zablonski added a kill each while Riley Watson followed up with a service ace which gave the Gorloks the 11-10 advantage. After both teams traded 2-0 runs, Harms laid down a hammer kill that tied the match at 14 apiece. 

With the set tied, the Bears responded with a 5-1 run that made the score 15-19. Moments later, the Gorloks chipped back with a 7-2 run that started on a kill by McGrath. In addition to McGrath's kill, Zablonski closed out the run with a kill that put the Gorloks on top at 22-21. However, WashU closed out the set with a 4-1 run which took the match which included a kill by Zablonski.

For the match, Ramstack led the attack with nine kills while Zablonski contributed seven. In addition, Watson recorded 16 assists as Tarlos recorded two service aces. Defensively, Zablonski collected a team-high 10 digs as White recorded three assisted blocks.
