Gorloks Drop Conference Battle To Westminster

FENTON, Mo. - The Webster University men's soccer team opened a three-game conference homestand by hosting Westminster College for White Out Wednesday. The Gorloks battled the Bluejays but fell short by the final score of 1-3. With the defeat, Webster moves to 3-6-1 and 1-2 in conference play.  

In the opening minutes of play, Webster recorded the first scoring opportunities of the match which came from Marcos Gonzales-Collado (out left) and Scott Price (blocked). Shortly later, in the eighth minute, Westminster cracked the scoreless match with a goal by Evan Schmitt. Midway through the half, the Gorloks had another look at the net but the shot by Alberto Duque Gonzalez was blocked. For the remainder of the half, the Gorloks defense held strong and cleared out two corner kicks that kept the deficit at one at the break. 

In the opening seven minutes of the second half, Webster added another scoring chance when Hayden Hatley ripped a shot toward the net but missed high. Moments later, in the 54th minute, the Bluejays stretched the lead to 2-0 with a goal by Brandon Schaupert. 

For the next 20 minutes of play, the Gorloks added eight shots; two from Duque Gonzalez and Price, and one each by Gonzales-Collado, Hatley, Elmin Lemes, and Ian Meyer that included six shots on goal as all shots on goal were saved by Hunter Deeken. Moments later, in the 75th minute, Price scored the lone goal for the match with a left-footed strike for his fifth goal of the season. In the final seconds of regulation, Westminster added the final goal of the match which generated the final score. 

For the match, Price led the attack with four shots that included three on goal. In addition to Price, Duque Gonzalez contributed three shots while Gonzales-Collado and Hatley added two each. In net, Leahy recorded one save.
