Bosnos Nets Game-Winning Goal; Jantzen Records Career High Saves In 1-0 Shutout Over Westminster

FENTON, Mo. - The Webster University women's soccer opened a three-game conference homestand with a match against Westminster College Wednesday evening for White Out Wednesday. Sophomore forward Sofia Bosnos scored the game-winning goal in the first half while goalkeeper Kayla Jantzen recorded a career-high eight saves in the 1-0 victory over Westminster. With the victory, Webster improves to 9-3 overall (2-1 SLIAC) and recorded their eighth shutout of the season. 

In the opening minute of the match, the Gorloks had the first scoring opportunity of the match when Payton Montana put a shot on goal but it was saved by Reagan Chigas. For the next 20 minutes of action, Webster and Westminster battled back-and-forth as both teams traded one shot each which included a shot on goal by Malaya Blakely but it was saved by Chigas. Moments later, in the 21st minute, the Gorloks advanced in the ball in the attacking zone when Riley Cappozzo sent in a cross to the right side of the box when Bosnos netted the right-footed shot for the 1-0 advantage.

On the ensuing Westminster restart kickoff, the Bluejays responded with an attack that resulted in two corner kicks but the Gorloks cleared out both attempts. Moments following the second clear out, Westminster ripped a shot on goal but it was saved by Jantzen. Shortly later, during the span of the 25th and 30th minutes, the Gorloks added three shots on goal which came from Blakely, Elin Nilsson, and Gemma Bowers but all shots were saved by Chigas. 

For the remainder of the first half, the Gorloks outshot the Bluejays 5-3 that included two shots by Montana and one shot each by Payton Harting, Lucy Elfrink, and Cappozzo. In net, Jantzen added three incredible saves that kept the Bluejays scoreless at halftime.

In the first 10 minutes of the second half, Webster added two great scoring opportunities on shots by Blakely and Mia Smith but both attempts went out right and over top respectively. Shortly later, in the 58th and 60th minutes, the Bluejays recorded two shots on goal as Jantzen collected both attempts. For the next ten minutes of play, the Gorloks recorded two additional scoring chances with shots on goal by Isabelle Schumacher and Bowers but both attempts were saved by Chigas. For the final 20 minutes of the match, the Gorloks defense held off late offensive attacks and two corner kicks attempts by the Bluejays that included two saves by Jantzen for the shutout victory.   
 
For the match, Blakely, Montana, and Bowers recorded three shots each while seven different Gorloks recorded at least one shot. In net, Jantzen made her fifth appearance and extended her shutout streak to four matches. In those four matches, Janzten has not allowed a goal.
