Elfrink Records First Career Hat Trick In 7-0 Shutout Over Principia On Senior Day

FENTON, Mo. - The Webster University women's soccer team continued conference play by hosting Principia College for Senior Day on Saturday. The Gorloks dominated the Panthers to a 7-0 shutout victory led by Lucy Elfrink's first career hat trick while Elin Nilsson recorded her third multi-goal with two goals. With the victory, Webster improves to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Prior to the match, the women's soccer coaching staff led by Head Coach Luigi Scire honored five seniors part of the Class of 2026 which included defenders Sienna Inouye and Payton Harting, forwards Mayrin Soto and Elin Nilsson, and midfielder Payton Montana

In the opening minutes of the match, Webster took control of the offensive zone and never looked back. Following two Gorlok corner kicks and in the fourth minute, Malaya Blakely had a great look at the goal when her shot hit the crossbar as a follow up shot by Inouye was saved. Four minutes later, in the eighth minute, Montana had two opportunities at net but both shots were saved. Shortly later, in the 16th minute, the Gorloks orchestrated an offensive attack when Nilsson collected the ball near the top of the box and blasted a right-footed shot to the left post for the 1-0 advantage which was assisted by Blakely.

For the next ten minutes of play, the Gorloks added three corner kicks but did not find a shot. However, in the 30th minute, Elfrink sent in a fantastic cross when Inouye netted the close-range shot for the 2-0 lead. That goal by Inouye marks her first goal of the season. Less than nine minutes later, in the 39th minute, the Gorloks sent the ball back into the attacking zone when Sofia Bosnos sent in a cross from the right side of the box to Elfrink when Elfrink netted her first goal of the match which made the score 3-0.

In the final moments of the first half, Elfrink sent a through ball to Montana near the top of the left box and passed it back to Elfrink. Without hesitation, Elfrink kicked a left-footed shot on goal and over the Panthers goalkeeper for her second goal of the match for the 4-0 halftime lead.

Webster and Principia opened the second half with back-and-forth action that included two shots toward the net by Blakely but missed left and out high. In the 59th minute, the Gorloks were awarded a penalty kick with a foul in the box from Principia. Moments later, Montana stepped up and took the shot and was saved but Montana made the rebound shot for the fifth goal of the match.

For the next 10 minutes of play, Blakely recorded two shots while Smith added one but neither attempt found the back of the net. Shortly later, in the 71st minute, the Gorloks added another attack when Smith found Nilsson at the top right of the box when Nilsson took a dribble and blasted a right-footed shot in the net for the 6-0 lead.

In the 88th minute, Gemma Bowers sent in a cross to the center of the box when Elfrink collected the ball and kicked a right-footed shot to the left post for the goal which achieved the hat trick.

For the match, Webster outshot the Principia 26-4 (17-1 shots on goal) and recorded 13 more corner kicks. A trio of Gorloks in Blakely, Elfrink, and Montana led the team with five shots each while Smith contributed three. Six different Gorloks recorded all six assists. In net, Haneline had a very calm night with only one save which secured her third shutout of the season.
