Elfrink Records Second Multi-Goal Performance; Gorloks Earn 10th Shutout Of Season With 5-0 Victory over MUW

FENTON, Mo. - The Webster University women's soccer team closed out a three-game conference homestand with a match against Mississippi University for Women. WU's Lucy Elfrink recorded her second multi-goal performance of the season that led to a 5-0 shutout victory. With the victory, it marks the 10th shutout of the season and Webster improves to 11-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play. 

In the opening minutes of the match, Webster took control of the possession and never backed down. In the third minute, the Gorloks had their first chance on goal when Sofia Bosnos ripped a shot but the shot just missed left. Two minutes later, in the fifth minute, the Gorloks added a counter attack when Sienna Inouye sent in a cross to the box that was collected by Mayrin Soto. With a defender on Soto, Soto found Payton Montana just outside at the top of the box when Montana ripped a shot on goal that went through the MUW's goalkeeper's legs for the 1-0 lead. 

For the next 15 minutes of play, the Gorloks kept the ball in the attacking zone and added 10 shots and two corner kicks. During that span, Montana led with three shots while Malaya Blakely contributed two while Riley Cappozzo added one. In addition, Isabelle Schumacher and Mia Smith put a shot on goal each but both attempts were saved by Lopez. In the 12th minute, Soto had a fantastic chance on goal but her shot hit the top crossbar as no rebound was found. Shortly later, in the 19th minute, Bosnos had another scoring chance when her shot hit the post but went out. 

Between the 22nd minute and 36th minute, Webster added seven shots led by Elfrink with three as Lorelli Barajas contributed two as Cappozzo and Bowers added one. MUW's Lopez picked up three saves during that span. Moments later, in the 37th minute, Webster orchestrated an offensive attack when Gemma Bowers sent in a cross to Elfrink near the far post when Elfrink netted the right-footed shot for the 2-0 lead as Bowers was credited with the assist. 

For the remainder of the first half, Bowers added two shots while Blakely added one shot as the Gorloks took the 2-0 halftime lead. For the first half, the Gorloks defense did not allow a shot. 

The Gorloks opened the second half with the same offensive aggressiveness and added eight shots in the first 10 minutes. During that span, Blakely and Smith had two shots on goal each as all attempts were saved by Lopez. In addition, Montana and Cappozzo added two shots each but missed. 

Moments later, in the 55th minute, the Gorloks added another attack when Smith ripped a shot on net that went off Lopez's fingertips for a corner kick. Moments later, Soto sent in a fantastic corner kick when Payton Harting netted a header goal just inside the left post for the 3-0 advantage. 

For the next 20 minutes of action, Webster put six shots on goal led by Montana with four as Blakely and Soto added one each but Lopez made all six saves. Shortly later, in the 79th minute, Webster sent the ball into the attacking zone when Inouye fought through two MUW defenders and ripped a left-footed shot in the back of the net as Elin Nilsson was credited with the assist. 

In the final seconds of the match, Kira Konigsfeld-Mawer sent the ball into the attacking box when Montana flicked the ball with her head to Elfrink in the box. Moments later, Elfrink netted the right-footed shot that captured her second multi-goal performance of the season and generated the final score. 

For the match, Montana recorded a career-high 12 shots that included a career-high seven shots on goal. In addition, Blakely blasted eight shots that included five on goal. Elfrink recorded six total shots that included three shots on goal. In net, Leia Adkins recorded one save and her third shutout of the season. 

As a team, Webster outshot MUW 49-1 that included a 25-1 shots on goal differential. In addition, the Gorloks recorded 15 corner kicks and did not allow a corner kick.
