Gorloks Eliminate Scots In Four Sets; Advances To SLIAC Semifinals Match

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Webster University volleyball team opened the 2025 SLIAC Volleyball Tournament with a road match at Lyon College on Thursday evening. The sixth-seeded Gorloks eliminated the third-seeded Fighting Scots by the score of 3-1 to advance to the semifinals match. With the victory, the Gorloks will advance to the semifinals match against top-seed Greenville University.

Webster and Lyon opened the match with back-and-forth play to a tie at four apiece that included a solo block by Catherine Rennier. With the set tied, the Gorloks took the 6-4 advantage with a kill by Rennier and a service ace by Delaney Morio. Moments later, the Scots responded with a 5-0 run that generated the 6-9 deficit. 

With the three-point deficit, the Gorloks answered back with a 3-0 run as a service ace by Megan Zablonski tied the set at nine apiece. Following two points by each team, Lyon added a 4-0 run that made the score 11-15. 

Shortly later, the Gorloks cut the deficit to 15-17 with a 4-2 run that included a kill by Tyler Ramstack. Following consecutive points by Lyon to the score of 15-19, Webster countered with a 4-0 run with kills by Delaney Fullenkamp and Lauren Harms while Rennier added another solo block which tied the set at 19 apiece. 

Late in the set, both teams traded points as the Scots took the 23-22 advantage. With a one-point deficit, the Gorloks closed out the set with three unanswered points that included two kills by Zablonski and an assisted block by Ramstack and Rennier for the 25-23 set victory. 

The Gorloks opened the second set with a 4-1 run that included a kill by Ramstack. Moments later, the Scots added a 3-1 run that made the score 5-4. Following kills by Zablonski and LC's Mollie McCoy, Webster stretched their lead to 10-6 with a 4-1 run that included a solo block by Eva Tarlos and an assisted block by Ramstack and Tarlos. 

With a four-point lead, the Scots responded with a 6-2 run that tied the set at 12 apiece. Immediately following the Lyon run, Webster added a 3-1 run for the 15-13 lead on kills by Rennier and Zablonski while Morio added a service ace. Moments later, the Scots countered with a 7-2 run that generated the 17-20 deficit. 

With the three-point deficit, Webster responded with a 3-0 run with kills by Ramstack and Tarlos that tied the set at 20 apiece. However, Lyon closed out the set with a 5-1 run that tied that match at one set each. 

Webster and Lyon opened the third set with back-and-forth action to a tie at three apiece that included kills by Ramstack and Tarlos while Zablonski and Tarlos paired up for an assisted block. With the set tied, the Gorloks added a 3-1 run for the 6-4 lead on kills by Rennier and Zablonski as both student-athletes paired up for an assisted block. 

With the two-point lead, the Scots responded with a 5-1 run that generated the 7-8 deficit. Moments later, the Gorloks recorded a 7-0 run that took the 14-8 lead that included two kills by Tarlos and a kill each from Harms and Ramstack while Riley Watson added a service ace. 

Following the Webster run, Lyon responded with a 7-3 run that cut the lead to 17-15. The set continued with back-and-forth play which pushed the Gorlok lead to 19-18. With the one-point lead, Webster achieved set-point with a 5-1 run that included a kill by Fullenkamp, Tarlos, and Ramstack. Zablonski closed out the set with a kill that generated the 2-1 match lead.

Webster opened the final set with the early 12-3 advantage that included two kills by Zablonski while Harms and Tarlos added one kill each. In addition, Webster recorded two assisted blocks which came from Zablonski and Tarlos & Rennier and Fullenkamp. The set continued with back-and-forth action as the Gorloks took the 15-6 lead. Moments later, the Scots countered with an 11-3 run that cut the Webster lead to 18-17. 

Late in the set, the Gorloks added a 4-1 for the 22-18 lead that included an assisted block by Harms and Tarlos. Moments later, the Scots cut the lead to 23-21 with a 3-1 run. With the two-point Gorlok lead, Harms closed out the match with consecutive points that included a kill and a service ace that secured the victory.  

For the match, Zablonski and Tarlos led the attack with 10 kills each while Ramstack contributed eight kills. Watson and Morio combined for 35 assists led by Watson with 20. Defensively, Jaycee Lewis collected a team-high 14 digs while Tarlos led with seven blocks.

The Gorloks will continue SLIAC Tournament play on Saturday, November 15 traveling to Greenville University for the semifinals match against the Panthers starting at 12:00PM in Greenville, Illinois.
