Emma Smith recorded career-highs of 10 points each as
Kaimyla Nolen added 10 points that led to a 65-55 victory over IC. With the victory, Webster improves to 2-1 overall on the season.
Webster and IC opened the game with back-and-forth action to the score of 7-6 that included baskets by Claire Williams, Caquelin (3-pt), and Webb. Moments later, the Gorloks added a 14-2 run that eventually closed out the quarter for the 21-8 advantage. In the run, Webb, Chassity McCammon, Emily Kerce, and Mattie Jones added a basket while Smith and Williams netted a three-point basket each.
The Lady Blues opened the second quarter with a three-point basket but the Gorloks responded with a 6-0 run to the lead of 27-11 on layups by Kerce, Webb, and Nolen. With less than six minutes in the quarter, IC countered with a 13-5 run that closed out the quarter for the 32-26 halftime lead.
In the opening minute of the second half, IC cut the lead to four at 32-28 with a pair of free-throws. Following the free-throws, Webster responded with a 5-0 run that stretched the lead to 37-28 which included three points by Caquelin and a fastbreak layup by Nolen.
Following a pair of layups by IC, Webster countered with an 8-1 run to the 45-33 lead. In the run, McCammon and Akaela added two points each while Smith netted a three-point basket as Kerce capped it off with a free-throw. In the final two and half minutes of the quarter, the Gorloks added a 6-2 run that included four points by Webb and a pair of free-throws by Smith which generated the 51-38 lead.
Webster and IC opened the fourth quarter trading points to the score of 57-42 that included baskets from Caquelin, Nolen, and Jones. Following a basket by IC, Webster stretched their lead to 60-44 on a free-throw by Smith and a jumper by Nolen. In the final two minutes of play, IC rallied with a 9-3 run as late free-throws by Nolen and Smith helped secure the double-digit victory.
At the glass, Webb led all student-athletes with eight rebounds while McCammon collected seven. In addition, Webb dished out a team-high six assists while Caquelin recorded two assists.
The Gorloks will open conference play on Tuesday, November 25 with a visit to Westminster College starting at 5:30PM in Fulton, Missouri.
