Gorloks Volleyball Drop Tight Four-Set Battle To Red Devils In Regular Season Finale

EUREKA, Ill. - The Webster University volleyball team closed out the regular season with a road conference match at Eureka College. The Gorloks won the opening set 25-12 then battled the Red Devils tightly for the next three sets but ultimately fell in four sets. Even with the defeat, Webster has earned a spot in the 2025 SLIAC Tournament.  

Webster opened the match with the early 7-2 advantage that included two kills by Eva Tarlos and Tyler Ramstack and one by Catherine Rennier while Riley Watson added a service ace. Following consecutive kills by Eureka, Webster responded with a 5-0 run that started on a kill by Megan Zablonski. Following the kills by Zablonski, Delaney Morio added two service aces while Jaycee Lewis contributed a kill. The run was capped off on assisted block by Morio and Rennier for the 12-4 advantage.

Moments later, the Red Devils added a 4-2 run that made the score 14-8 which included a kill by Zablonski and Rennier. With the six-point lead, the Gorloks stretched their lead to 21-9 with a 7-1 run. In the run, Zablonski added two kills while Delaney Fullenkamp, Kate Moleski, and Ramstack had one kill each as Watson recorded a service ace. The Red Devils added a 3-0 run late in the set but the Gorloks closed out the set with a 4-0 run that included a service ace by Tarlos for the 25-12 victory. 

Eureka opened the second set with the first point but Webster countered with a 7-0 run for the 7-1 lead. In the run, Carley Hersberger added a kill and a solo block while Leah McGrath capped it off with a service ace. Following the Webster run, Eureka responded with a 5-1 run that made the score 8-6. The Gorloks and Red Devils continued the set by trading points to the score of 11-8 that included a kill by Zablonski and Fullenkamp. 

Moments later, the Red Devils added a 3-0 run that the set at 11 apiece. With the score tied, Webster added consecutive points for the 13-11 that included a service ace by Maddie Bock. With the two-point lead, Eureka countered with a 4-0 run and took the 15-13 lead. With the two-point deficit, the Gorloks responded with a 10-3 run that included six kills which took the 23-18 lead. In the run, Zablonski recorded three kills while McGrath. Watson, Hersberger, Ramstack, and Fullenkamp had one kill each. However, the Red Devils rallied late and closed out the set with an 8-1 run that tied the match at one apiece. 

Webster opened the third set with the early 7-3 lead that included a kill each by Ramstack, Zablonski, and Rennier while Morio added a service ace. Moments later, the Gorloks added a 6-2 run for the 13-6 lead that included a kill each by Morio and Tarlos while Bock contributed a service ace. 

Following consecutive points by Eureka, Webster added a 4-1 run for the 17-9 lead on an assisted block by Rennier and Zablonski, a kill by Zablonski, and a service ace by Morio. The set continued with both teams trading 4-0 runs that pushed the score to 21-13. In the Webster run, Morio and Maggie Stanford added a kill each as Rennier recorded a solo block. 

Moments later, the Red Devils added a 3-0 run which was followed up with a kill by Stanford and a service ace by Bock for the 23-16 Gorlok lead. However, Eureka closed out the set with eight unanswered points that took the 2-1 set lead. 

Webster opened the fourth set with the early 4-2 lead that included two kills by Ramstack and one kill by Zablonski. Eureka countered with a 5-0 run that generated the 4-7 deficit. Moments later, the Gorloks added a 3-1 run and cut the deficit to one at 7-8 on kills by Hersberger and Stanford and a service ace by Zablonski. Following the Webster run, Eureka added a 5-2 run that pushed the score to 9-13. With a four-point deficit, the Gorloks responded with a 6-2 run on kills by Ramstack, Hersberger, and Zablonski that tied the set at 15 apiece. With the set tied, both teams traded points to the tie at 17 apiece that included a kill by Morio.

With the set tied, Eureka added three consecutive points while Stanford and Ramstack added a kill each that generated the one-point deficit at 19-20. Late in the set, both teams traded points that included kills by Tarlos, Ramstack, and Stanford. However, the Red Devils added the final kill of the match that generated the loss. 

For the match, Ramstack and Zablonski led the team with 13 kills each while Stanford contributed a career-high five kills. At the service line, Webster recorded 12 service aces led by Morio with four as Bock recorded three. Defensively, Zablonski led with 15 digs while Watson secured 12. At the net, Rennier led with three blocks while Ramstack, Zablonski, and Hersberger had one each. 

The Gorloks have earned a spot in the 2025 SLIAC Volleyball Tournament and will find out more information in the coming days.
