Gorloks Eliminated Titans Led By Greifelt and Peters In Home Opener

SAUGET, Ill. - The Webster University baseball team opened their home schedule with a contest against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Friday afternoon at Grizzlies Ballpark. WU's Ryan Greifelt pitched seven complete innings while Karl Peters blasted his first home run of the season that led to a 4-1 victory over the Titans. 

In the top of the first, Greifelt got in a jam after allowing a lead off double. Following a wild pitch, the Titans struck first on the scoreboard with an RBI single that made the score 1-0.In the next three innings, Greifelt recorded three scoreless innings that kept the deficit at one. 

In the bottom of the fourth, James Theodore got the inning started with a lead off single to left. The next batter in Evan Evola smashed a double to right as Theodore came all the way around to score that tied the game at one apiece. Moments later, Cullen McBride reached base on an error and immediately stole second. The next batter in R.J. LaRocco recorded his first rbi of the season with a double to center that scored McBride that took the 2-1 advantage. 

In the top of the fifth, Greifelt recorded his fourth scoreless inning of the game that included a strikeout. In the bottom frame, WU's Nick Schumacher led off the inning with a walk. With one out, Peters launched a two-run home run over the left field fence that stretched the lead to 4-1. 

Greifelt went back to the mound in the sixth and seventh innings and continued to shut down the Titans as he added another strikeout in his outing. 

In the top of the eighth, Webster called up reliever McBride out of the bullpen as he recorded the first two outs of the innings. With runners on second and first, Webster made their third pitching change of the game and called upon Joel Arsenault as he got the third out of the inning.

In the top of the ninth, the Titans had two singles that put the tying run at the plate. However, Arsenault recorded a flyout that ended the game as he was credited with the save. 

For the game, the Gorloks recorded six hits as Peters led with two runs batted in. On the mound, Greifelt pitched seven full innings, struck out four, and was credited with the win.

The Gorloks will continue their home opening weekend with two games on Saturday, March 1 starting against North Park University at 10:00AM which will be followed up with a rematch decision against the Titans at 4:00PM .
