Gorloks Fall Twice In Florida

COCOA BEACH, Flor. - The Webster University softball team continued spring break action in Florida with a doubleheader against Emerson College and Wisconsin Lutheran College. The Gorloks dropped the opening contest against the Lions by the final score of 0-8 and fell to the Warriors in the nightcap by the final score of 3-10.

Game 1: Webster 0, Emerson 8

Webster was the home team in this decision as starting pitcher Madi Stichling got in a jam in the first. The Lions recorded two runs in the inning on a rbi single and a double-steal attempt with runners on the corners for the 2-0 lead. 

In the bottom of the first, Aven Ragwar-Hayes got the inning started with a walk and advanced to second. However, she did not advance any further. 

In the top of the second, Emerson recorded a three-run inning on back-to-back hits that made the score 0-5. In the bottom half, Adrianna Rodriguez recorded the first hit of the game which was a one-out double to center. Unfortunately, she was stranded on second. 

In the top of the third, Stichling recorded her first scoreless inning of the game that included three groundouts.

In the top of the fourth, the Lions added a single-run on a rbi triple that made the score 0-6. In the bottom half, Cheyenne Dickens led off the inning with a walk for the third base runner of the game. However, she did not advance any further. 

In the top of the fifth, Emerson added a single-run on a rbi by Kayla Nuehlen that made the score 0-7. In the top of the sixth, the Lions scored a run on a sacrifice fly that made the score 0-8. 

In the bottom of the sixth, Lili Work led off the inning with a single to center and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ragwar-Hayes. Moments later, Dickens drew a walk that put two runners on base. However, the Gorloks did not scratch a run that led to the loss. 

For the game, Work and Rodriguez recorded the only two hits for the game. With those two hits, Webster added three more base runners in the game on two walks by Dickens and a walk by Ragwar-Hayes. On the mound, Stichling pitched all six innings and was credited for the loss. 


Game 2: Webster 3, Wisconsin Lutheran 10

Webster was the away team in this game when Ragwar-Hayes got the Gorloks started with a single to left. Moments later, Ragwar-Hayes advanced to third and then scored on a single to left by Marah Schotz for the 1-0 advantage. In the bottom half, WU's Ainsley Hinz got her third start of the season in the circle and delivered a scoreless inning that included a strikeout. 

In the top of the third, Ragwar-Hayes extended the Gorlok lead to 2-0 with a solo home run which was her first of the season. In the bottom of the third, the Warriors responded with a three-run inning that included two hits and a Gorlok error. 

In the top of the fourth, Stichling got the inning started with a single to left. Moments later, Abigail Chandler ripped a double that advanced Stichling to third. With two outs, Aurora Lomheim laced a single that scored Stichling which tied the game at three apiece. 

In the bottom of the fifth, Webster made a pitching change and called upon Rodriguez. Shortly later, the Warriors took the 4-3 lead with an rbi single by Julianna Alloy. In the bottom of the sixth, WLC answered with a six-run inning on seven hits that generated the final score. 

For the game, Ragwar-Hayes and Stichling recorded two hits and one rbi each while Lomheim added the other rbi for the game. In the circle, Hinz pitched 4.1 innings that included seven groundouts and one strike. Rodriguez closed out the game and recorded five strikeouts. 

The Gorloks will have a day off tomorrow and will continue spring break play on Friday, March 14 with a decision against Grinnell College starting at 2:30PM (ET) in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
