Gorloks Fall To Second-Ranked Seahawks

AUBURNDALE, Flor. - The Webster University baseball team continued their spring break schedule with a decision against second-ranked Salve Regina University Sunday morning. The Gorloks battled the Seahawks but fell short by the final score of 0-4. Webster moves to 6-5 overall on the season.

The Gorloks were the away team in this decision as Evan Evola reached base on a two-out error. In the bottom of the first, Webster's starting pitcher Ryan Greifelt got in a jam as the Seahawks took the early 1-0 lead on an RBI double by Evan O'Rourke. Following that play, Greifelt responded with two strikeouts as he limited Salve Regina to one run.

In the bottom of the second, Greifelt recorded all three outs of the inning by strikeouts for a scoreless inning. In the top of the third, Karl Peters recorded the first hit of the game on a two-out single to center. Moments later, he stole second but did not advance any further.

In the bottom of the fourth, Salve Regina extended their lead to 4-0 with a three-run home run by Shea Donovan. In the top of the fifth, R.J. LaRocco got the inning started with a one-out single to left. Moments later, he stole second but was stranded there.

In the top of the sixth, James Theodore got the inning started on a one-out single. Moments later, Evola laced a single to center that advanced Theodore to third. With runners on the corners, Evola advanced to second on a passed ball. The Gorloks scoring opportunity was halted that kept them scoreless.

In the top of the seventh inning, Webster called upon reliever Ethan Luzum as he recorded a scoreless inning that resulted in a 6-4-3 double-play. In the top of the eighth, Peters ripped a double for his second hit of the game but did not advance any further. That double by Peters was the last hit of the game for Webster.

For the game, Peters led the team with two hits while Theodore, Evola, and LaRocco added one hit each. On the mound, Greifelt pitched six complete innings and recorded all six strikeouts for the game. Reliever Luzum pitched the final two innings and allowed only one hit.

The Gorloks will continue spring break play with a decision against Immaculata University starting at 9:00AM eastern time in Davenport, Florida.
