SAUGET, Ill. - The Webster University baseball team continued their non-conference schedule with a home doubleheader against Franklin College on Tuesday at GCS Ballpark. The Gorloks swept the Grizzlies by the final scores of 10-7 and 3-0. WU's Evan Evola went 4-for-5 with four rbi's while J.T. Miller captured a new career-high of 11 strikeouts in game two that helped extend their win streak to four games. With both victories, the Gorloks improve to 17-6 overall on the season.

Game One: Webster 10, Franklin 7

Junior starting pitcher Elijah Rompala-Matthews took the mound for his seventh start of the season. With one out, Franklin took the early 2-0 lead on a two-run home run. Rompala-Matthews recorded his first strikeout of the game that ended the inning.

In the bottom half, the Gorloks loaded the bases quickly that included back-to-back hit-by-pitches taken by James Theodore and Karl Peters and a walk drawn by Evan Evola. Moments later, Cullen McBride was plunked by the pitch that allowed Theodore to score that cut the deficit in half at 1-2. With the bases still loaded, R.J. LaRocco laced a two-run double down the right field line that scored Peters and Evola that took the 3-2 advantage. The Gorloks capped off the four-run inning on an error by FC's pitcher that allowed McBride to score that increased the lead to 4-2.

In the top of the second, Rompala-Matthews recorded his first scoreless inning that included a strikeout. In the bottom frame, the top of the order of Theodore and Peters got the inning started with back-to-back singles. With runners on the corners, Evola ripped a rbi single through the right side that scored Theodore that pushed the lead to 5-2. Following a sacrifice bunt by McBride and a walk drawn by Ryan Hartz that loaded the bases, the Gorloks stretched the lead to 6-2 on a passed ball that allowed Peters to score.

In the top of the third, the Grizzlies added two runs on one hit. Rompala-Matthews recorded a strikeout for the second out of the inning that ended his day. Webster made their first pitching change to Ethan Luzum as he recorded the final out of the inning that kept the score at 6-4.

In the top of the fourth, Franklin added a single-run that cut the lead down to one at 6-5. In the bottom half, Evola led off the inning with a single and scored a rbi triple by LaRocco that increased the lead to 7-5. Moments later, LaRocco stretched the lead to 8-5 as he scored on a throwing error.

In the top of the fifth, McBride took over on the mound and recorded a scoreless inning that included a strikeout. In the top of the sixth, McBride got in a jam as Franklin scored two runs on three hits that made the score 8-7. Webster made their third pitching change of the game and entered in Ryan Greifelt. In the bottom of the seventh, Ben Stedman and Dalton Groves got the inning started with back-to-back singles. With two outs, Theodore stretched the Gorlok lead to 9-7 with an rbi single to center that scored Stedman.

In the top of the eighth, Webster called upon reliever Joel Arsenault as he recorded a scoreless inning that included a strikeout while stranding two runners.
