Women’s Soccer Fall To Lake Forest In Season Opener

FENTON, Mo. - The Webster University women's soccer team opened the 2025 season by hosting Lake Forest College Saturday afternoon at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. The Gorloks battled the Foresters but fell short by the final score of 1-6. WU's Mayrin Soto netted the lone goal for the Gorloks.

In the opening five minutes of the match, Webster recorded three shots that were taken by Sofia Bosnos, Soto, and a shot on goal by Malaya Blakely. During that stretch, Lake Forest took a shot on goal but it was saved by Leia Adkins as she made her Webster debut. For the next 15 minutes of play, the Foresters added six shots that included another save by Adkins. Lake Forest cracked the Gorlok defense twice in the 18th minute and scored two quick goals from Anna Hoffman and Anna Gracia.

For the remainder of the first half, Webster added two shots off the cleats of Blakely and Elin Nilsson but trailed 0-2 heading into halftime.

The Gorloks opened the second half by adding two shots that came from Mia Smith and Riley Cappozzo. In the 55th minute, Webster sent the ball near the attacking box when Smith found Soto wide open in the middle as Soto ripped the shot in the back of the net that cut the deficit in half. 

Immediately following the Webster goal, Lake Forest added five shots and added a goal in the 61st minute that made the score 1-3. Five minutes later, the Foresters were awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the box by Webster that resulted in a goal that made the score 1-4. Less than three minutes later, in the 68th minute, LFC added a goal. 

The Foresters added the final goal of the match in the 68th minute that pushed the score to 1-6. For the remainder of the match, Webster earned two corner kicks but did not get a shot on goal. 


For the match, Soto led the attack with three shots while Blakely contributed two. In net, Adkins recorded nine saves on 35 shots faced. 


The Gorloks will continue this four-game homestand on Monday, September 1 with a decision against Knox College starting at 1:00 PM at WWT Soccer Park.
