Webster Drops Road Battle To Unbeaten Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Webster University volleyball continued non-conference play with a match at Rose-Hulman on Wednesday. The Gorloks fought hard against the undefeated Engineers but dropped this decision by the score 0-3.  

Webster and Rose-Hulman opened the match with back-and-forth action to a 5-4 advantage that included kills by Megan Zablonski, Grace White, and Lauren Brown. Moments later, both teams traded 3-0 runs to a 8-7 lead that included a kill by Eva Tarlos.  With the one-point lead, the Engineers added a 5-1 run that generated the 9-12 deficit. Immediately following that run, the Gorloks constructed a 4-2 run that cut the deficit to one at 13-14. In the run, Zablonski got it started with a kill and it was capped off with an assisted block by Delaney FullenkampThe Gorloks and Engineers continued the set with back-and-forth play as a kill by Brown generated the 16-17 deficit. Moments later, Rose-Hulman closed out the set with an 8-1 run for the score of 17-25.    

Webster opened the second set in an early 5-10 deficit that included kills by Lauren Harms, Zablonski, Fullenkamp, and Catherine Rennier. Moments later, the Gorloks constructed a 5-0 run that tied the set a 10 apiece. In the run, Harms and White recorded an assisted block while Tyler Ramstack added a kill. The run was capped off with a service ace by Maddie Bock

Midway through the set, the Engineers added a 6-3 run that pushed the score to 13-16. Immediately following that run, the Gorloks added three consecutive points that tied the set at 16 apiece that included kills by Fullenkamp and Zablonski. Moments later, Rose-Hulman responded with an 8-3 run to the score of 19-24. Webster added a late push with three consecutive points with kills by Ramstack and White white Riley Watson added service but fell short by the score of 22-25. 

The Gorloks opened the third set with three consecutive points that included kills by Harms and White while Watson added a service ace. The set continued with back-and-forth action as a kill by Tarlos pushed the lead to 8-6. Immediately following that kill by Tarlos, the Engineers countered with five unanswered points that generated the 8-11 deficit. Moments later, the Gorloks cut the deficit to 13-14 with a 5-2 run that included kills by Zablonski and Fullenkamp. The Engineers closed out the match with an 11-4 run that included kills by Tarlos and Harms. 
 
For the match, Zablonski recorded a team-high nine kills while White added five. Watson led the team with 14 assists as Delaney Morio dished out ten. At the net, the Gorloks recorded 10 assisted blocks which was led by White with three. On the defensive side of the net, Bock led with 12 digs while Morio and Zablonski collected eight each.   

The Gorloks will continue non-conference play on Friday, September 19 with a contest against Simpson College which will be played at Washington University in St. Louis.
