Gorloks Secure Conference Split With 3-1 Victory Over MUW On Senior Day

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University volleyball team opened conference play by hosting the WU Tri-Match with matches against Mississippi University for Women and Blackburn College on Saturday for Senior Day. The Gorloks opened the day with a dominant 3-1 victory over MUW but fell to Blackburn in a five-set thriller that earned a split. Webster moves to 3-8 overall and 1-1 in conference play. 

Prior to the second match of the day, the Webster University coaching staff led by Head Coach Merry Graff honored six members of the team for the Class of 2026 which included Grace White, Jaycee Lewis, Eva Tarlos, Tyler Ramstack, Delaney Fullenkamp, and Delaney Morio.

Match 1: Webster 3, MUW 1

Webster opened the match with 6-3 advantage that included five kills led by Fullenkamp with two as Grace White, Lauren Brown, and Tarlos while Megan Zablonski added a service ace. Moments later, the Owls cut the lead to 7-6 with a 3-1 run. Following that run, the Gorloks extended the lead to 10-6 with three consecutive points on kills from Tyler Ramstack and Zablonski. Webster and MUW continued the opening set with back-and-forth action as a kill by Tarlos pushed the lead to 15-11. Following a point by the Owls at 15-12, the Gorloks added a 5-1 run which extended the lead to 20-13 that included a kill by Ramstack. For the next three points, Webster and MUW traded points that made the score 22-16. The Gorloks closed out the set with three consecutive points on kills by Riley Watson and Fullenkamp while Lewis sealed the set victory with a service ace. 

The Owls opened the second set with the early 4-1 advantage that included a kill by White. Moments later, the Gorloks erupted with a 10-1 run that increased the lead to 11-5. In the run, Webster earned kills from Fullenkamp, Lauren Harms, and Tarlos while Fullenkamp added a solo block as Maddie Bock contributed a service ace. Immediately following the Webster run, MUW countered with a 11-3 run that generated the 15-17 deficit. Moments later, the Gorloks tied the set at 18 apiece that included an assisted block by Harms and White. With a one-point deficit at 18-19, Webster added a 4-0 run and took the 22-19 lead that included three kills; two by Tarlos and the other by Ramstack. Immediately following the WU run, MUW responded with a 5-0 run that achieved set-point at 24-22. However, the Gorloks closed out the set with four consecutive points and won the set 26-24 for a 2-0 sets advantage. 

Webster and MUW opened the third set with back-and-forth play to a tie a three apiece that included kills by Zablonski and Ramstack. Moments later, both teams traded 4-1 runs that tied the set at eight apiece. With the set tied, the Gorloks added a 5-2 run that increased the lead to 13-10 with kills by Fullenkamp and White as Tarlos contributed a solo block. The Owls chipped back with a 5-2 run of their own and tied the set at 15 apiece. With the set tied, Webster rallied for a 5-2 run and took the 20-17 lead with two kills by White and a service ace by Lauren Peterson. However, the Owls countered with an 8-2 run that closed out the set for the 22-25 defeat.

The Gorloks opened the final set with the early 6-2 lead that included a service ace by Grace White and another kill by Ramstack. The Owls answered back with a 4-0 run that tied the set at six apiece. With the set tied at seven, Webster added a 6-2 run that increased the lead to 13-8 with kills by Tarlos and Fullenkamp. Webster and MUW continued the set with back-and-forth action that pushed the Gorlok lead to 17-13. Moments later, Webster increased the lead to 21-14 with a kill each by Ramstack, Fullenkamp, Zablonski, and Tarlos. Immediately following that kill by Tarlos, the Owls rallied for a 7-2 run that cut the lead to 23-21. The Gorloks closed out the match with a kill by Ramstack and an attacking error by MUW that earned the first conference victory of the season.

For the match, Tarlos led the attack with 13 kills while Ramstack had 11 as Fullenkamp contributed nine. Watson led the team with 20 assists while Morio added eight. On the defensive side of the net, Zablonski collected a season-high 16 digs as Lauren Harms collected 11 while Fullenkamp had two solo blocks.


Match 2: Webster 2, Blackburn 3 

Webster and Blackburn opened the match exchanging 4-1 runs that tied the set at five apiece. Moments later, the Gorloks erupted for a 8-1 run that took the 13-6 advantage. In the run, Harms and Fullenkamp added a kill each while Harms contributed a service ace. The run was capped off with back-to-back blocks; assisted block by White and Zablonski and a solo block by Fullenkamp. The Gorloks and Beavers continued the set with back-and-forth action that pushed the score to 16-11 lead. Webster closed out the opening set with a 9-1 run that included five kills; two each by Fullenkamp and Zablonski, and three service aces led by Morio with two as Harms added one for the 25-12 set victory. 

The Gorloks and Beavers opened the second set with back-and-forth play to tie at seven apiece. With a two-point deficit at 7-9, Webster constructed a 6-0 run that took the 13-9 lead which included two kills by Zablonski and a kill by Fullenkamp. The run was capped off on three consecutive service aces by Tarlos. Blackburn chipped back in the set and cut the Gorlok lead to one at 16-15. The Gorloks immediately answered back with kills by Tarlos and Harms that increased the lead to 19-16. Late in the set, both teams traded 4-0 runs that gave the Gorloks the 23-20 lead. However, Blackburn closed out the set with a 5-0 run that tied the match at one apiece.  

Webster and Blackburn opened the third set trading points as the Beavers took the 3-2 advantage. Moments later, the Gorloks responded with an 11-3 run that took the 13-6 lead with six kills and a service ace by Morio. With the 14-10 lead, Webster rallied for six unanswered points and increased the lead to 20-10 with two kills each by Ramstack and White as Peterson added a service ace. The Gorloks scored the final five points of the set that included three kills by Harms, Tarlos, and Brown that won the set by the score of 25-14. 


The Beavers opened the fourth set with the 5-2 advantage that included a service ace by Watson and a kill by White. Moments later, the Gorloks countered with a 10-4 run as a kill by Ramstack put Webster back on top at 12-9. Blackburn immediately answered with a 9-3 run that generated the 15-18. Tarlos followed up with back-to-back kills that cut the deficit to one at 17-18. However, the Beavers closed out the set with a 7-2 run that forced a fifth set.  

Blackburn opened the fifth set with the early 5-2 lead but Webster responded with a 4-1 run that tied the set at six apiece. In the WU run, White added a kill and back-to-back blocks. The battle continued as both teams pushed the score to 7-9 deficit. Moments later, Webster regained the lead at 12-11 with a 5-2 run that included three kills; two by Tarlos and one by Ramstack while Tarlos added a solo block. Immediately following the Webster run, Blackburn responded with back-to-back points that took the 13-12 lead. Moments later, Ramstack hammered down a kill that tied that set at 13 apiece but the Beavers added consecutive points that generated the loss. 

For the match, Tarlos and Ramstack led the attack with new season-highs of 15 and 13 kills respectively while White had nine. Watson recorded a season-high 23 assists while Morio dished out 15. Tarlos led the team with four service aces while Morio had three. On the defensive side of the net, Lewis captured a season-high 18 digs as White recorded two solo blocks.

The Gorloks will continue conference play on Wednesday, September 24th hosting Greenville University at 6:00PM in Grant Gym.
