Men’s Soccer Fall To UW-Whitewater In Non-Conference Play

FENTON, Mo. - The Webster University men's soccer team continued their three-game non-conference homestand with the middle stanza decision against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Thursday evening at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. The Gorloks fell to the Warhawks by the final score of 0-7 and move to 1-1 overall on the season. 

In the opening minutes of the match, Webster advanced and kept the ball in the attacking zone that included two corner kicks and two shots by Scott Price. In the 10th minute, UW-Whitewater opened the scoring with a goal. Less than three minutes later, the Gorloks had a great scoring chance when a shot by Alberto Duque Gonzalez hit the crossbar but no rebound shot was found. Shortly later, the Warhawks added three quick goals and took that advantage to halftime. 

The Gorloks opened the second half with a fight and attacked the box that resulted in two corner kicks and three shots; two by Price and one by Duque Gonzalez. Following the shots by Webster, UW-Whitewater countered with two quick goals.

In the 57th minute, Webster attacked the offensive zone which resulted in a shot by first-year midfielder Charlie Noakes. Less than 10 minutes later, fellow first-year classmate Niklas Storck had a scoring chance on net but missed wide. In the 67th minute, midfielder Bosco Gonzalez blasted a shot on goal but it was saved. 

Five minutes later, the Gorloks had another great offensive attack that resulted in a shot by Hayden Hatley but went out high. In the final 10 minutes of play, the Warhawks added their final goal of the match while Henrique Cardoso recorded the final shots for Webster that generated the final score.

For the match, Price led the team with five shots while Duque Gonzales and Cardoso recorded two each. Goalkeepers Charlie Leahy and Luke Dillon each recorded one save each. As a team, Webster had 13 shots as nine came in the second half and had nine corner kicks compared to three of UW-Whitewater.  

The Gorloks will close out this three-game homestand on Sunday, September 7 hosting Elmhurst University starting at 3:00PM.
