Gorloks Fall Short To Lynx In Classic Finale

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Webster University volleyball team closed out the Rhodes College Classic tournament with a match against the host Rhodes College Saturday afternoon. The Gorloks battled the Lynx but fell short by the final score of 0-3.

Webster and Rhodes opened the match trading points that pushed the match to a tie at six apiece that included a kill by Eva Tarlos. Moments later, the Lynx responded with a 10-2 run that generated the 8-16 deficit. Shortly later, Webster responded with three consecutive points that cut the deficit to five at 11-16 that included a kill by Grace White. With the deficit, Rhodes added a 4-1 run that pushed the set score to 12-20. With an eight-point deficit at 13-21, the Gorloks chipped back with a 4-1 run that included an assisted block by Tarlos and Tyler Ramstack and a kill by Tarlos that made the score 17-22. Webster and Rhodes traded the final three points as Rhodes took the set by the score of 20-25.   

The Gorloks and Lynx opened the second set exchanging 3-0 runs that included a kill by Lauren Harms and a solo block by White. Moments later, Webster took the 7-6 advantage by adding three consecutive points that included a kill by Megan Zablonski. Following those points by Webster, Rhodes constructed a 12-2 run that generated the 9-18 deficit. Immediately following that run by Rhodes, Webster responded with a 7-2 run that cut the deficit down to four at 16-20. In the run, Ramstack, Lauren Brown, Delaney Fullenkamp, and Zablonski added one kill each while Lauren Peterson had a service ace. However, the Lynx closed out the set with a 5-1 run that took the set.

The Gorloks opened the third set with the 4-2 advantage that included a kill by Zablonski. Moments later, both teams traded points that pushed the set to a tie at 12 apiece. With the set tied, Webster added a 5-0 run that included three consecutive kills by Harms, Ramstack, and Zablonski. Peterson continued the rally with another service ace while Ramstack and White teamed up for an assisted block that pushed the lead to 17-12. Both teams continued the set with back-and-forth play that pushed the set to a Gorlok advantage at 19-15. Moments later, Rhodes closed out the set with a 10-2 run that generated the defeat.

For the match, Zablonski led the attack with six kills while Tarlos added four. Peterson led with two service aces while Watson, Morio, and Harms added one each. Watson led the team with 11 assists while Morio added five. Defensively, Lewis and Morio secured nine digs each as Watson and Peterson collected seven each. At the net, White recorded two solo blocks while Ramstack, White, and Tarlos had two assisted blocks. 

The Gorloks will continue their non-conference schedule on Wednesday, September 10 with a visit to Rose-Hulman for a match starting at 7:00PM (ET) in Terre Haute, Indiana.
