Gorloks Splash Season-High 15 Threes in 86-64 Victory Over Greenville

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Webster University women's basketball team continued the heart of their conference season with a visit to Greenville University Saturday afternoon. The Gorloks splashed a season-high 15 three-pointers and scored 34 points in the paint that led to an 86-64 victory over the Panthers. With the victory, Webster improves to 9-6 overall, 6-1 in conference play, extending SLIAC win streak to four games, and currently ranks first in the conference with a one-game advantage.

Webster and Greenville opened this decision exchanging baskets to a tie at seven apiece that included a three-pointer by Kaimyla Nolan layups by Miya Webb and Claire Williams. Shortly later, Webb cashed back-to-back three-pointers that gave the Gorloks the 13-11 advantage. 

With under four to go in the opening quarter, Webster stretched their lead to 17-13 on a pair of free-throws by Emma Smith and Daijah Jones. WU's Smith and Emily Kerce closed out the quarter scoring for Webster with a layup and three-pointer respectively which generated the 22-18 advantage. 

The Gorloks and Panthers opened the second quarter trading points to the score of 26-22 which included layups by Kerce and Webb. With under six minutes on the clock, Webster responded with a 7-0 run for the 33-22 advantage on five points from Akaela Caquelin and a layup from Grace Hupp. Moments later, the Panthers added consecutive layups that made the score 33-26.

The Gorloks closed out the final three and a half minutes of the quarter with an 11-0 run that started on back-to-back three-pointers by Caquelin. Following a free-throw by Hupp, D. Jones and Nolen added layups that generated the 46-26 halftime advantage. As a team, Webster held Greenville to just eight points in the second quarter. 

The Panthers opened the third quarter with a 6-2 run to the score of 48-32 which included a layup by Nolen. Moments later, the Gorloks responded with a 10-3 run which took to the 58-35 lead. In the run, Caquelin and Kerce knocked down a three-pointer each Jones and Hupp made a layup each. The Gorloks closed out the quarter with a 9-4 run that included two three-pointers by Williams and a one by Caquelin which pushed the score to 67-41. 

Greenville opened the fourth quarter with a three-point basket but Webster countered with an 8-0 run that pushed the score to 75-44. In the run, Webb and Peyton Dolan sank a three-pointer while Meghan Illingworth made a layup.  

With seven minutes to go, the Panthers added a 12-5 run that made the score 80-56 which included four points by Kerce and free-throw by Mattie Jones. With under three minutes to go, the Gorloks stretched the lead to 85-56 on a three-pointer by M. Jones and layup by D. Jones. WU's Terryn Ford closed out the scoring for Webster with a free-throw which generated the final score. 

For the game, four Gorloks achieved double-figures which was led by Caquelin with a game-high 17 points that included a career-high five three-pointers. In addition, Webb contributed 13 points while Kerce added 12 points. WU's D. Jones recorded career-highs of 10 points and six assists.  

As a team, Webster outscored Greenville 53-35 in bench points, generated 40 points off Panthers turnovers, and recorded 14 second chance points. 

The Gorloks will open a two-game homestand on Thursday, January 22 hosting the Owls of the Mississippi University for Women at 5:30PM in Grant Gym.
