Women’s Basketball Drop Non-Conference Finale To Knox

GALESBURG, Ill. - The Webster University women's basketball team concluded non-conference play with a visit to Knox College on Saturday. The Gorloks dropped their non-conference finale to the Prairie Fire by the score of 53-83. With the defeat, Webster moves to 11-7 overall on the season. 

Webster opened the game in an early 2-9 deficit but countered with a 7-0 run that tied the game at nine apiece. WU's Akaela Caquelin got the run started with a three-pointer by Akaela Caquelin when Claire Williams and Emma Smith followed up with consecutive layups.

Immediately following the Webster run, Knox countered with a 10-2 run that pushed the score to 11-19. WU's Williams closed out the quarter scoring for a Webster with a three-pointer that made the score 14-21.

Knox opened the second quarter with a 10-2 run to the score of 16-31. Following a pair of free-throws by Emily Kerce, Knox closed out the final five minutes of the quarter with a 10-0 run that generated the 18-41 halftime deficit. 

The Gorloks opened the third quarter with the first three points; a free-throw by Illingworth and a layup by Miya Webb that made the score 21-41. However, Knox countered with an 8-2 run that pushed the score to 23-49. 

Midway through the quarter, Knox added a 15-4 run that pushed the score to 28-64 which included layups by Grace Hupp and Kerce. The Gorloks closed out the scoring quarter with three free-throws; Kaimyla Nolen sank one while Webb splashed a pair that generated the 31-66 deficit. 

The Gorloks opened the final quarter with a 9-2 run that pushed the score to 40-68 which included five points by Webb and layups by Addison Price and Hupp. Following that Webster run, Knox countered with a 9-2 run of their own that made the score 42-77.

Between the minute marks of 4:18 to 2:32, both teams traded baskets to the score of 46-83 that included four points from Daijah Jones. The Gorloks closed out the game with a 7-0 run that included two free-throws from Hupp, three points from Terryn Ford, and a layup by Price that generated the final score.

For the game, Webb led the team with 11 points as Williams added seven points. Hupp contributed six points while securing a team-high five rebounds. 

The Gorloks will revert back to conference play and start a three-game homestand on Tuesday, February 3 hosting Lyon College at 5:30PM in Grant Gym.
