15th-Ranked Gorloks Fall To RV WashU In Babe Howard Classic Finale

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - The 15th-ranked Webster University baseball team closed out their weekend competing in the 2026 Babe Howard Classic with a decision against RV Washington University of St. Louis. The Gorloks fell to the Bears by the score of 0-10. Webster moves to 2-4 overall on the season. 

Senior right-hander pitcher Carter Hunt got the start on the mound for the Gorloks and hit the first batter he faced. Moments later, Hunt recorded a popout to himself and a strikeout. With two outs, the Bears struck first with an RBI double to left center that made the score 1-0. 

In the second, Hunt recorded two quick outs that included a strikeout. Following a hit, he recorded a strikeout that ended the half inning. In the bottom of the second, the Gorloks went down in order with three groundouts.

In the third, WashU loaded the bases with a single and two Gorlok errors then stretched their lead to 3-0 with a two-run double. Hunt got out the inning without any further damage with a groundout to second. In the bottom half, Dalton Groves broke up the no-hitter with a lead off double to right center. Moments later, Groves advanced to third off the bat of Logan Manuello. However, the Gorloks did not score a run that kept the score at 0-3. 

In the fourth inning, both starting pitchers delivered a scoreless inning as Hunt recorded a strikeout and groundout. In the top of the fifth, the Bears got two runners on base with singles but Hunt worked out of the jam with a strikeout. In the bottom half, Ethan Wielt recorded a one-out single but was left stranded. 

In the top of the sixth, the Bears got a lead off triple and an RBI single that took the 4-0 lead. Moments later, WashU got runners on second and first with a throwing error and hit-by-pitch by Hunt which ended his outing. Webster called upon reliever Wes Carter as he got an out on a sacrifice bunt. With runners in scoring position, the Bears added a run on groundout to second that made the score 5-0. WashU capped off the inning with an RBI single that made the score 6-0. Carter got out of the inning with a foul out to first. 

In the top of seventh, Webster made a pitching change to Bauer Dalke as the Bears recorded four hits and produced three runs that made the score 9-0 which ended Dalke's outing. Webster made a pitching change to left-hander Zach Mevert and the Bears added consecutive hits and one run that made the score 10-0. Mevert recorded two outs which included a strikeout and a popout to shortstop that ended his outing. Webster then called upon reliever Shane LeJeune-DeAcutis as he recorded the final out of the inning with a flyout. In the bottom frame, Andrew Xenakis, AJ Simmons, and Noah Jensen got a pinch hit opportunity but the game came to a close. 

For the game, Wielt and Groves recorded the only two hits for the Gorloks. On the mound, Hunt pitched five complete innings, recorded six strikeouts, and six groundouts. Carter pitched one inning and got two groundouts. Mevert pitched two-thirds of an inning and recorded one strikeout. LeJeune-DeAcutis delivered a third of an inning and got one flyout.

The Gorloks will continue non-conference play on Friday, February 27th with a decision against Transylvania University at 3:00PM in Lexington, Kentucky.
