Gorloks Fall To #5 Denison

LEXINGTON, Ken. - The Webster University baseball team continued non-conference play in Kentucky will a decision against #5 Denison University. The Gorloks fell short by the score of 4-20. Webster moves to 2-7 on the season. 

Left-handed pitcher Ryan Greifelt got the start on the mound for Webster and recorded two quick outs. Following a hit-by-pitch and walk, Denison struck first with an RBI single that made the score 0-1. Moments later, Denison added a two-run single that put the score at 0-3. Starting catcher, Nick Wrubluski got the Gorloks out of the inning with a strike down to second that caught the runner trying to steal. 

In the bottom half, James Theodore led off and reached on an error and advanced to scoring position by Ryan Hartz. Following a strikeout wild pitch that moved Theodore to third and Ethan Wielt made it safe to first, the Gorloks did not scratch a run. 

In the second, Greifelt retired the first two batters he faced with a flyout and a groundout. Denison followed up with a triple and an RBI single that made the score 0-4. With the bases juiced, Denison increased the lead to 0-7 with a three-run homer. Greifelt got out of the inning with a strikeout. In the bottom frame, Jacob Charlson recorded a one-out single but was left stranded.  

In the third, Greifelt recorded a quick and scoreless inning that included two groundouts and a flyout. In the bottom half, Wrubluski laced a single to left but did not advance any further. 

In the fourth, Denison recorded a walk, a sac bunt, a single, and a stolen base that put runners on in scoring position. With one out, Denison added a two-run single that made the score 0-9 that ended Greifelt's outing. Webster called upon reliever Michael Pasquesi as Denison added four runs that made the score 0-13. Pasquesi got out of the inning with a flyout. 

In the bottom of the fourth, AJ Simmons, Easton Kretzer, and Charlie Pellicer entered the game and got an at-bat but went down in order. 

In the top of the fifth, Webster called upon reliever Jack Wilson out of the bullpen as he got in a jam as Denison added a six-run inning on six hits that made the score 0-19. In the bottom half, Jonah Taylor recorded a double to right but was left stranded. 

In the sixth, Webster called upon reliever Collin Johnson as he recorded a scoreless inning that included a flyout, a groundout, and two strikeouts. In the seventh, Denison added a single-run with a solo homer that made the score 0-20.

In the bottom of the seventh, Pellicer led off with a double to right and advanced to third on a single by Logan Manuello. Moments later, Talan Hutchings reached base on an error that scored Pellicer for the first run of the game. With one out and runners in scoring position, Manuello scored on a wild pitch that made the score 2-20 as that pitch was ball four for Andrew Xenakis. Moments later, Hutchings scored on a wild pitch that made the score 3-20. 

With Xenakis on second, Cal Tiner ripped an RBI double to the gap in right center that scored Xenakis that made the score 4-20. This decision was closed on a 5-4-3 double play. 

For the game, Tiner recorded the only RBI of the game while Taylor, Wrubluski, Charlson, Pellicer, and Manuello recorded one hit each. Greifelt pitched the first three and two-thirds innings and recorded two strikeouts while Pasquesi recorded a flyout. Wilson delivered one inning and got two groundouts and a flyout. Johnson closed out the final two and one-third innings and recorded a team-high three strikeouts.
