Gorloks Baseball Fall To RV Baldwin Wallace In Kentucky Finale

LEXINGTON, Ken. - The Webster University baseball team closed out their trip to Kentucky with a decision against RV Baldwin Wallace University. The Gorloks battled the Yellow Jackets but fell short by the score of 0-2. With the loss, Webster moves to 2-7 overall on the season.

Senior right-hander Carter Hunt earned his third start of the season on the mound and struck out the first batter he saw. The Yellow Jackets connected on back-to-back hits that put runners on the corners. With one-out, Baldwin Wallace took the early 1-0 lead with an RBI double. Hunt got out of the inning with consecutive strikeouts.

In the top of the second, Dalton Groves recorded a two-out single to center but was left stranded. In the bottom half, Hunt sent down the Yellow Jackets in order that included two strikeouts and a flyout.

In the third, Jacob Charlson led off the inning and was hit by the pitch and advanced to second on a walk drawn by James Theodore. With two runners on, the Gorloks scoring opportunity was halted with an inning-ending double play.

In the bottom half, Baldwin Wallace increased the deficit to 2-0 with a solo homerun. Hunt retired the next three batters he faced that included two strikeouts and a line out to Theodore in center.

In the top of the fourth, Nick Wrubluski led off with a single to left and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With one-out, Adam Moser reached base with a hit-by-pitch at-bat. However, the Gorloks did not score in the inning that kept the score at 0-2. In the bottom of the fourth, Hunt had another quick inning with two groundouts and a flyout.

Both teams were held scoreless in the fifth inning as Hunt worked out of a bases-loaded jam with a strikeout. In the sixth inning, both starting pitchers delivered a 1-2-3 inning as Hunt got a groundout, a foul out, and line out to Theodore.

In the top of the seventh, Reid Hietpas got the inning started with a two-out infield single to shortstop. Moments later, Charlson followed up with a single to right that advanced Hietpas to second. With two runners on, the Gorloks did not find that timely hit as both runners were left stranded.

In the bottom of the seventh, Webster called upon reliever Bauer Dalke out of the bullpen as he faced two batters and got a fielder's choice out at second. Following that out, Webster called upon Elijah Rompala-Matthews out the pen as he got out of the inning with a fielder's choice out at second and a groundout to second that kept the two-run deficit.

In the eighth, both teams did not score a run as Rompala-Matthews recorded a strikeout and covered the play at first while Groves caught a runner trying to steal second.

In the ninth inning, Moser recorded a one-out walk which put the tying run at the plate. Moser advanced to second on a balk but the Gorloks rally fell short as the Yellow Jackets recorded the final two outs of game.

For the game, the Gorloks recorded four hits which came off the bats of Wrubluski, Groves, Hietpas, and Charlson. On the mound, Hunt pitched six innings, earned a season-high eight strikeouts, and allowed only four hits. Dalke recorded one out while Rompala-Matthews closed out the final inning and two-thirds and struck out one batter.
