Webster Softball Drops Non-Conference Home Game To Rhodes

EUREKA, Mo. - The Webster University softball team closed out their 11-game homestand by hosting Rhodes College for a non-conference decision. The Gorloks recorded four hits and fell by the score of 0-5. Webster moves to 5-8 on the season.

First-year Kailey Rushman earned her sixth appearance in the circle as she got in an early jam with a hit-by-pitch and sacrifice bunt that advanced the runner to third. With one out, Rhodes struck first on the scoreboard with an RBI single. Rushman got out of the inning with a popout and flyout that kept the one-run deficit.

In the second inning, both teams were held scoreless which included a groundout, a caught stealing throw down by catcher Vanessa Seanz, and a lineout.

In the third, Rhodes produced a two-run inning with an RBI groundout and RBI single that made the score 0-3.

In the fourth, Rushman delivered a scoreless inning that included a groundout to herself, a flyout, and caught a liner back to herself. In the bottom half, Ainsley Hinz broke up the no-hitter with a single up the middle. Two batters later, Addison Penn laced a two-out infield single. However, both runners were left stranded that kept the score at 0-3.

In the fifth, Rushman sent down the Lynx in order with groundouts and a flyout. In the sixth, Rushman allowed a lead off single that ended her outing as Adriana Rodriguez replaced Rushman. Rodriguez got the first batter she faced to ground into a fielder's choice at second. Following that out, Rodriguez got into a jam and then worked out of the jam with a strikeout and a flyout that kept the score the same.

In the seventh, Rhodes added two runs; an RBI groundout and an RBI single that generated the score to 0-5. In the bottom half, Marah Schotz led off with an infield single to third and was advanced to second by pinch hitter Natalie Puentes. With Schotz on second, pinch hitter Kacey Ekstrom laced a single to left as that hit was the final hit of the game for Webster.

For the game, the Gorloks recorded four hits which came off the bats of Hinz, Penn, Schotz, and Ekstrom. In the circle, Rushman pitched five innings and recorded seven groundouts, six flyouts, and one strikeout. Rodriguez closed out the final two innings and got two groundouts and a strikeout.
