OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Webster University women's basketball traveled to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for the opening round of 2026 NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday night. The Gorloks battled the fourth-ranked Titans to the end but came up short by the final score of 37-53. With the defeat, Webster's incredible season comes to a close with an overall record of 19-9.
In the opening five minutes of play, Webster jumped out the 6-4 lead on consecutive three-pointers by Akaela Caquelin. With four minutes to go in the quarter, UW-Oshkosh tied the game at six apiece. Approximately two minutes later, the Titans then took the 9-6 lead with a three-pointer but WU's Daijah Jones closed out the quarter scoring with a pair of free-throws that made the score 9-8.
Webster and UW-Oshkosh opened the second quarter with great defense as neither team scored for over four minutes. Just before the midway portion of the quarter, the Titans added a 5-0 run that pushed the score to 8-14. Moments later, Emma Smith and Jones added a basket each that pushed the score 12-17. For the final three and a half minutes of the quarter, both teams held each other scoreless that kept the five-point deficit.
The Gorloks came out in the second half with a 5-2 run that cut the deficit to three at 17-20 which included all five points from Kaimyla Nolen. Moments later, the Titans countered with an 8-0 run that pushed the score to 17-28.
Shortly later in the quarter, Caquelin and Smith added a free-throw each when Jones sank a jumper that made the score 21-30. However, the Titans closed out the quarter with an 8-0 run that generated the 21-38 deficit.
The Titans opened the final quarter with an 8-1 run that pushed the score to 22-46 which included a free-throw by Claire Williams. Following that run, Webster added a 5-2 run to the score of 27-47 that included a pair of free-throws by Jones and a three-pointer by Miya Webb.
With three and a half minutes to go, Webster and UW-Oshkosh traded points to the score of 31-51 that included layups by Emily Kerce and Nolen. Following a pair of free-throws by the Titans, the Gorloks closed out the game with a 6-0 run that included four points by Caquelin and a layup by Kerce that generated the final score.
For the game, Caquelin led the team with 11 points and five rebounds while Jones added eight points and a team-high three steals off the bench. Nolen contributed seven points, two rebounds, and two steals.
