Gorloks Drops Series Finale To Spalding In Final Inning

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Webster University baseball team concluded their conference series with Spalding University on Sunday. The Gorloks fell to the Golden Eagles behind a four-run ninth inning that generated the 4-5 loss. With the loss, Webster moves 24-13 and 18-3 in SLIAC play. 

Webster the series finale with a lead off walk by James Theodore then Adam Moser followed up with a two-run blast that gave the Gorloks an early 2-0 lead. 

The reigning SLIAC Pitcher of the Week Colt Armbrust earned his 11 appearance on the mound and recorded a scoreless first inning with two groundouts and a flyout. In the second, Armrust recorded his second consecutive inning with a flyout, a strikeout, and worked out of a bases-loaded jam with a flyout. In the third, Armbrust saw four batters in the inning and got a popout to short for his third scoreless inning. 

In the fourth and five innings, both teams were held scoreless as Armbrust sent down the Golden Eagles in order twice with a popout and two groundouts.

In the top of the six, Theodore reached base on an error and then stole second. With one out, Dalton Groves laced a single up the middle that advanced Theodore to third. With two outs, Reid Hieptas belted an RBI double to left that scored Theodore for the 3-0 lead. 

In the bottom of the sixth, Spalding recorded a lead off single but Groves eventually threw that runner out at third on a steal attempt. Armbrust got a popout and groundout that kept Spalding off the board. 

In the bottom of the seventh, Armbrust allowed a lead off walk then a sac bunt that put a Golden Eagle in scoring position. With one out, Spalding got on the scoreboard with an RBI single that made the game 3-1. Armbrust got out of the inning with a strikeout and a flyout. 

In the top of the eighth, Moser recorded a one-out single and advanced to third on a single by Groves. With runners on the corners, Nick Wrubluski laid down a great squeeze that scored Moser which stretched the lead to 4-1. In the bottom half, Armbrust allowed a lead off walk but got a 4-6-3 doubleplay and a flyout for a scoreless inning. 

In the bottom of the ninth, Spalding recorded a lead off double to right center and a walk that ended Armbrust's outing. Webster called upon reliever Elijah Rompala-Matthews as he got the first out of the inning with a sac bunt out. With one out, the Golden Eagles added an RBI double to left that made the score 4-2. Following that play, Spalding drew a walk which loaded the bases. With the bases loaded, the Golden Eagles tied the game at 4-4 with a two-run double. 
With the game tied, Webster made a pitching change to Wes Carter. Following an intentional walk that loaded the bases, Spalding walked it off with an RBI single to left that made the final score 4-5. 

For the game, Moser went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer. Groves and Hieptas recorded two hits each while Wrubluski and Talan Hutchings had one hit apiece.
