Hietpas, Moser, and Wrubluski Blasted a Home Run; Hunt Recorded 10 Strikeouts in 10-3 Victory Over Lyon

SAUGET, Ill. - The Webster University baseball team continued conference play by hosting Lyon College for a single-game Friday evening at Arsenal BG Ballpark. Reid Hietpas, Adam Moser, and Nick Wrubluski launched a home run each while Carter Hunt struckout 10 batters in the 10-3 victory over the Scots. With the victory, Webster improves to 25-13 overall and 19-3 in SLIAC play. 

Senior right-hander Hunt earned the start on the mound and opened the game with a scoreless inning with a strikeout and a 6-4-3 doubleplay. In the top of the second, Hunt allowed a leadoff single but recorded three consecutive strikeouts that kept the Scots off the scoreboard. 

In the bottom of the second, Hietpas belted a leadoff homerun that gave the Gorloks the 1-0 lead. Ryan Hartz and Ethan Wielt followed up with singles when Talan Hutchings laced an RBI single to right center for the 2-0 lead. With runners on the corners, Lyon's pitcher threw the ball away on a pickoff attempt to first that allowed Wielt to score that increased the lead to 3-0. 

In the top of the third, Hunt allowed back-to-back singles but got off the inning unscaved with a 6-4-3 doubleplay and a flyout that kept the lead at 3-0. 

In the top of the fourth, Lyon recorded a walk and a double that put runners in scoring position. With two runners on, the Scots got on the board with an RBI groundout that made the score 3-1. With one out and a runner on third, Lyon added another run on a passed ball that pushed the score to 3-2. 

In the top of the fifth, Hunt sent down the Scots in order with two groundouts and a strikeout. In the bottom half, James Theodore recorded a one-out single when Moser followed up with a two-run homerun that increased the lead to 5-2. Groves followed up with a single, stole second, and advanced to third on a single by Wrubluski. With runners on the corners, Hietpas drove in Groves that increased the lead to 6-2 then stole second. Following a single by Hartz that advanced Hietpas to third, Hietpas stole home that made the score 7-2. 

In the top of the sixth, Hunt recorded all three outs himself with three strikeouts. In the bottom half, Hutchings led off with a walk and advanced to second by Charlie Pellicer. With two outs and Hutchings on third, Moser ripped an RBI double to left that scored Hutchings for the 8-2 lead. Moments later, Groves launched an RBI double to right that scored Moser which increased the lead to 9-2. 

In the top of the seventh, Hunt sent down the Scots in order with a foul out to third, a groundout, and a flyout. In the top of the eighth, Lyon recorded a walk, a single to center, and a hit-by-pitch that loaded the bases. With the bases loaded, the Scots added a run on a walk issued by Hunt which ended his out. Webster then called upon reliever Wes Carter as he got out of the jam with a strikeout and a 4-6-3 doubleplay that kept the score at 9-3. 

In the bottom of the eighth, Wrubluski belted a solo homer over the right center field wall that increased the lead to 10-3. In the top of the ninth, Carter shut the door and sent down the Scots in order with two strikeouts and a flyout. 

For the game, Moser went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and 3 RBI's. Wrubluski went 3-for-4 with a solo homer while Hietpas blasted a solo homer. On the mound, Hunt pitched seven innings and recorded 10 strikeouts. Carter closed out the final two innings and recorded three strikeouts.
