ST. LOUIS, Mo. - After an accomplished career spanning three decades dedicated to student-athletes, leadership, and excellence in collegiate athletics,
Scott Kilgallon, athletic director at Webster University has officially announced plans to retire, effective June 2026.
Kilgallon has served as the director of athletics since 2014, overseeing a period of remarkable growth and achievement for Webster. Under his leadership, the athletic department experienced success both on and off the field, including over 50 St. Louis Intercollegiate Conference championships, the first individual National Champion (Will Hocker, men's golf), Webster University successfuly hosting four NCAA Baseball Regional Championships, former pitcher (Josh Fleming) being drafted by Major League Baseball and then pitching in the World Series, and the women's basketball and soccer teams achieving top 25 national and regional rankings.
Under Kilgallon's tenure, Gorlok student-athletes routinely achieved high academic honors, with GPAs higher than the student body average, earning regional and national recognition.
Kilgallon credits his coaching and support staff as "Amazing people that work tirelessly recruiting the best student-athletes to Webster. They have been a pleasure to work with, and their dedication to providing a positive experience in the development of the whole person has resulted in high retention rates."
One of Kilgallon's proudest moments came at the NCAA Convention in Florida, where he accepted on behalf of the University the Jostens National Community Service Award, along with twice winning the SLIAC Commissioners Cup for the best athletics program and for sportsmanship in the same year.
During his tenure, Kilgallon secured a new S-A weight room, formalized the Hall of Fame Ceremony, and designed the Wall of Fame recognizing alumni and contributors. In 2021, Kilgallon was recognized as Webster's Staff Member of the Year for successfully implementing COVID testing procedures and protocols to keep everyone safe. Kilgallon played a key role in expanding athletic programs and fostering a culture of integrity and inclusion.
Before Webster, Kilgallon served as athletics director at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for a decade, where the athletics program improved in the NCAA DIII Directors Cup rankings from 68th to the 10th-best program in the country, winning three NCAA DIII National Championships and hiring three National Coaches of the Year. Kilgallon also served seven years at Southern Vermont College (SVC) as athletics director and men's and women's cross country and track and field coach. He moved SVC's athletics program to active membership with the NCAA at the DIII level. In 2015, Kilgallon was inducted into SVC's Hall of Fame.
